Apparently some people within FIFA believe that the £7m with a possible further £2m to follow,Sunderland have paid way too much for Keeper Craig Gordon and have decided to fine Hearts accordingly.

Mental Eh?

You think they got the idea from playing online footie games?
2007-08-09 21:29:26
Nah

I just made it up, nobody would be daft enough to fine the selling team, not even an online footie game......

....Would they?

There should be a cull then!

Just as a precaution, in case its spreads to the good healthy fans, it could be devastating

A thought occurs to me, and would seem to be an eminently suitable solution.

The regulatory body (in this case FIFA) can just adjust the price, taking the excess away from the seller and returning it to the buyer.

To fine the seller is clearly madness unless cheating can be proved beyond doubt.

To balance the payments corrects the situation in the present and educates for the future, no?

100% behind every word you said, so simple really.

Now, if only someone from The regulatory body (in this case FIFA) were reading this thread......

actually i disagree.... if you return money to the buyer like this it'll be an incentive for buyers to start bitchin bout transfers.

in my opinion there are only 2 situations where FIFA should should get involved in the transfer:

1) where there is blatant cheating going on

2) where the buyer messages the mods and can demonstrate that the bid was a genuine mistake (which the mods can check up on). the common mistake would be including 1 zero too many. but even still, you can't mess with the transfer values... the only reason you got the guy was cause u bid soooo damn high, u can't simply return the cash, i think the transfer should be null and void, player goes back to his original team, money back to the buyer...

Yeah, I realised later this afternoon it might actually encourage overbidding to finish the competition bidders off safe in the knowledge that the transfer would be adjusted.

It wouldn't work.

So the fine is supposed to balance the transfer to average amount?

I guess it actually works, apart from upsetting sellers. Though the regulatory body has a fair responsibility to get it right.

but i still don't see what right FIFA think they have (or even what purpose they are fulfilling) of stepping into a perfectly fine trade in the open market where both the buyer and seller are happy with the deal
2007-08-10 23:29:40
Well that's my biggest problem with it too, it seems they do it in case there was some cheating involved, meaning both innocent and happy people can get shafted.

I'm still of the opinion that transfer wasn't overpriced personally.

I'd advise that no-one uses Bargain or Robbed thread in the future, funny how FIFA have one called that too. :)
