Azərbaycan U21 - Nederland U21 4:1
Ok... let's talk in parts.
The test was to try to use our current concept at U21 but with defense modifications, as our defense is slow, I thought I'd try to make them move less and get closer by trying to double up on the strikers.
It went very wrong because I did just what the opponent wanted, a big mistake on my part ... if they play with the team all behind, then a big problem for them is the lack of space to create offensive plays if I open So much room for his strikers to act, so I'm handing the cake.
To make matters worse the sokker acted handicapped with us, a goalkeeper injury (luck that wasn't serious, a red card to our defender and a bug that occurred in the game).
I make 3 subs for 65 min, the subs was.... Giesen < Brüll, van Eerd < van der Luer and was to happen de Goey replacing Bogarde, i know i make correctly this subs, i always check more than 1 time this, but sokker put Bogarde as a defender and Pappot as a midfielder.... my god, this fucked us.... hope this happen in a friendly match, if this happen in a official match, pretty much sokker screw us....
And about the red card to our defender... that make things be much worse than us, only 3 midfielders on pitch and this broke the advantage we have in start since Azerbaijan was using only 3 midfielders... even with only 10 players on pitch, we have some chances, but thanks to his 3 vs 3, lack some creation of space to a pass happen to our strikers.
Also the goals we recieved was the mistake i talk before, i give too much space and this was what Azerbaijan wants. they have good stikers to play in the box and lacks more moviment by our defenders.
An acceptable result for today was to be 4-3 to Azerbaijan, we have a missed penalty and a shoot by Drenthe that hit the post, at least a good thing i see today was the long passes to the strikers, a pity sokker did not count as a assist to Bogarde, because his pass to van Eerd was lovely... our next test with U20 team will be against Poland, so i already know that if i try things i try today specially on defense, i will recieve at least 10 goals form Poland players.
But that was matter this matches, test concepts, see how the players played on field and try to improve for next matches, now next week we come back to play WCQ, another match against Colombia, if we beat Colombia again, we could talk that we have one hand on U21WC.

You do a good job Woody, hopefully there will be more interest in U-21 from our small community with such an enthusiastic coach!
thanks ikkieshuffles, not only for what you write but also other people from community that give support for me, it's gratifying to read this... i hope i can continue here for more seasons and could make people have more interest in the U21 team and also in open youth schools and training our talents that we already see it since a lot of our players is trained by dutch owners. :)
As you see we have a small community but with a lot of talented youngsters for the coming seasons, for some managers a good reason to stay!
to be honest i do not think we have a small community...
Of course... if we compared to a Poland or România we are a small community... i coach 4 seasons the U21 team of Poland, i remember in my time of 3000 users in Poland, had approximately 1000 confirmed youth schools... since have so many YS, was easy to push more good prospects and i remember in my 3rd season i create 3 teams since we have so many options...
But compared to the current U21 World Champion Finland for example...
They have 77 users and it is confirmed that they have at least 32 youth schools.
This 32 is counted just the number of teams in the junior divisions.
Let's count that they have about more 10, 12 teams that have a youth school open but do not play in junior leagues, so aprox is 42-45.....
Netherlands have 113 users but also is just confirmed 32 teams with youth schools (same count as Finland and also only the teams that play in junior divisions).
Let's count for example that have more 10,12... so is just aprox 42-45 like Finland.
But in numbers we have 36 users more than Finland, so we could have no problems in my opinion about 80 clubs with youth schools open.
Ofc, of these 113 users... probably only 90-85 is active... but 70-80 in my opinion is a number that is possible we have, but how do we get these people interested in opening youth schools?
Maybe i talk in forum about the U21 team? is one of the things that could help, but also try to have a contact with this users and show those who have a certain insecurity in opening up the positive things of having a youth school for example...
But I prefer to take it easy and slowly show it so that we can see in the medium-long term that the Netherlands has maybe more youth schools in future, so we may be more likely to see more good prospects for the NT.

Second match against Colombia in WCQ, very important match for us... since if we beat Colombia again, we could talk that we have 80% of chance to be in U21WC after more 3 rounds...
I reviewed the 1st match we have against then this week again, so today's strategy is trying to avoid certain mistakes made earlier and trying to be more aggressive than before to be able to score goals.
To be honest I do not believe they will drastically change strategy, the Colombian coach since the beginning of the season uses very defensive strategies and clearly in the 1st match against us they were more concerned with avoiding goals than making goals... we are the opposite, the best defense for the Netherlands is a good offense ... if we suffer 3 goals then we have to make 4 goals and so on. Our style of play is thinking of making as many goals as possible...
Adri de Lange is back to defender our goal again and i hope nothing bad happen with our players today, that the strikers want to score a lot of goals.
Despite the way I'm talking sounds a bit arrogant, far from underestimating Colombia ... I simply believe we have the potential to dominate the match again and make more than just 1 goal. Only that...
Here is the list of players for the match against Colombia.

YES! THE RESULT WE WANT!
Was a difficult match since Colombia have a good level team and they again try to play with a strong defense to avoid our strikers, but i say i was surprised when i saw that he made a line of 2 attacking midfielders on front instead of only one that was his strategy on last match against us, since our defense try a more aggressive positioning, because of this change they managed to like 4 times make a player of them cross this defensive line and have 1-vs-1 chances against our goalkepper.... But I wouldn't risk something like that if I didn't know the players I own, our defense was fine, one move happens or another they don't succeed, but we don't have one of the best defenses of the season for nothing, I trust the skills of my players and so I proposed something more aggressive, even to make the Colombian team not have much time with the ball because I realized in the last game that they are a slow team and giving them time to react is not a good idea... this work very well and because of that we have good chances to make more than 2 goals also....
Today i do not use Geels because i want to my both DEF-MIDS to pass more faster the ball and also have more speed to close the spaces against Colombia, but Lucius as halfwinger was not a good idea since he do not have a good level in playmaking skill, our strategy a lot of times if Lucius pass the after recieve the ball, we could create more chances to our strikers or winger with a lot of space to create a good chance, but at the end was ok, we have the result we wants and now i do not believe it that we will lose a match against Kazakhisthan or Panamá.... so is just now make the results we need to we go to U21WC.
Also... i choose a stadium with bigger measures just to try to create more space in the Colombian defense and also to make them have to run more, I did it because we have defenders who are fast enough to avoid plays.... and I have to admit that the Colombian defenders are very good, specially the number 3, is not a easy team to try to attack but Tol was in a good day today scoring 2 goals! :)

Kazakhstán U21 - Nederland U21 1:6
A easy win... could be more goals but against weaker teams, our players like to do not force too much... and also some bad luck in some situations, the goal they made in final was a bit ridiculous, but is funny that Colombia could do not score on us but Kazakhstán can... thanks to Uruguay beat U.A.E., now our difference is higher compared to the other teams, so we only do not go to U21WC now if we lose by w.o. next matches...
Next match against U.A.E., let's prepare to win another match and show the legacy of the Netherlands, the Netherlands is a big institution in this game, tomorrow we will see NT team play the final, hope we can see the Netherlands being world champion again ... it's a brilliant job done by De Generaal, and we hope this legacy continue, not only in NT... but also next seasons with the U21 team, i think is possible and we can do it if we continue with our work. :)
