A tad unlucky, but you might want to analyse the match a bit further than 'bad luck'. You'd probably have won had you put De Moerloze on the wing. You depended on through passes and got an awful lot of those, but shots on goal aren't half as dangerous as headers on goal. I would never have fielded Deroo in his current form, either. I believe you need strikers in divine form to make any sort of chance. (GK's are way too dominant.)

Hij is net zoals ik gebonden aan de kwaliteiten van zijn selectie. Hij heeft een paar dingen gedaan die ik niet zou hebben gedaan, maar hij is een sluwe oude vos. Ik zou niet te snel willen zijn met stellen dat hij foute keuzes heeft gemaakt. Hij is erg goed met een topselectie zoals jullie die hebben. Dit was een incident dat zich niet snel zal herhalen.

An amazing Wolters or an amazing ME I wonder. I think headers are too effective. They always were lethal, but the 50/50 chance to get to head the ball effectively halved the effectivity of headers. If you can position a tall striker in front of the goal every pass results in a goal.

Yeah, the finishing of Wolters was amazing...

as for De Moerloose - I didn't want to play with a winger, decided to make a central attack and it turned out well, lots of through passes...which number has a lot to do with tactics, it's not only about luck :)

I don't know why but the beginning of game was only Belgie, then since ~30min only Nederland, then...no one. Odd game...really bad finishing of superdivine and divine strikers...9 shots isn't everything, Tambour run into GK at least 3 times...

Of course your tactic was very nice today, I wasn't expecting that. Although I thought at the beginning that it won't work against my tactic...

They are mostly about luck. Tactics help of course, so does skill, but I have stopped fooling myself about through passes a long time ago. They are probably the worst implemented feature in the entire ME now that heading has been taken care of.

Form matters for strikers. I would never have fielded Deroo for instance. At any rate, you got more or less what you could expect with 2 goals. It's the Dutch finishing which is amazing. I believe it's a direct result of how length is implemented. Headers were already lethal, but due to the fact it was a conflip whether a striker could head the ball it wasn't too bad. Now that a striker had clear air superiority you could see how lethal it truly is. I posted something about that on a place where greg might see it. I really hope heading will be nerfed a bit.

With the old ME you'd have won this with 2-1 or 3-1. Knwing the new ME would likely be used today, I do think you made an error in refusing to field a winger.

Trust me, you wouldn't want to change the Belgian MF players for the Dutch ones. :-)

Good luck to you too! Going to be a nice tournament. Really interesting results in the TTT. Spain beating everyone, ending up with a draw against the weakest team of the tournament. Poland being defeated by Romania who was beaten in almost every game...

And yet we must remember other great teams that will take part in WC - Italy, Brazil, Argentina...:)
