Marco Boogers

Boogers does at least have one claim to fame - by being nominated by five people for inclusion on this site he has set a new record. He is the new standard bearer for rubbish footballers the world over.

As with many such players, Boogers' reputation for rubbishness has actually grown over time. He barely played enough for anyone to actually see him in action, yet everyone seems to remember him. It's the same as when that elephant crapped on the Blue Peter set - noone really watched it live, yet everyone has it etched on their memory nowadays.

Boogers arrived at Upton Park with a scoring record of better than a goal every third game in Holland. To put that into context, it made him as appealing a prospect as Dirk Kuyt is latterly. It took him very little time to quickly destroy his reputation.

In game one, he got 30 minutes against Leeds and contributed nothing. In game two, he made more of a mark, getting sent off 15 minutes after coming on at Old Trafford.

In his third and fourth games he played a combined total of 50 minutes and his next game - well, that was for a new club. West Ham had seen enough after four matches.

An interesting sidenote to the story is that, for a while, Boogers hid in a Dutch caravan park, the stress of life in the English top flight having got all too much.
