If only he could score those superb chances that he had several times already. He seems to be afraid when he realises that there's only the gk left to beat.

Hes only 21 though isn't he? Composure will come once he gains a little more age. For someone so young his composure for your 4th goal yesterday was fantastic imo. His early chance against us was his wrong (right) foot too.

Witout Messi Argentina would not be the same team, without Oezil I do not think Germany would play the same way either....I might be wrong, but he just seems to have the knack of finding space and creating chances and space for others too. ;)

Did you see the third german goal yesterday? That was brillant, not the fourth one.
2010-06-28 13:19:17
The 3rd came from the free kick we had near your area? It was a great counter attack. ;)

First goal was awful by us, 2nd the same. The 3rd and 4th goals were the best of the game. You deserved the win for sure, but had it gone to 2-2 (as it should have done) I do wonder what your young side may have done....the wind would trully have been in our sails at that point and you were definately shakey at 2-1. :)

I don't think that Özil is geting not enough credit. He is playing a good tournament but we do have a very good option for his position with Kroos. For me Kroos could be even better on this position. He is a bit different to Özil (not that easy ballhandling but way better completer and also very good technichal- and passing skills) but also a very good playmaker with huge capabilities.

I have not really seen Kroos so cannot comment. :)

We need a left footer so badly in midfield. I am very disappointed at how poor we have been this whole tournament. I tipped Spain to win it before the start and still maintain they are the side to beat from Europe.

I think this is a misjudgement of the whole english press. They always believed this young team lacks experience and would have had mental problems against this old and very experienced english team. I do not think that they would have mental problems after a 2-2. Just watch the reaction to serbias 0-1 with just 10 guys, they created lots of chances and had just real bad luck.

Fair enough, what I meant though is that it would have given our team the kick in the ass that it needed to have got back to 2-2, at 2-1 we were chasing and allowed ourselves to be caught out of position for the counter attacks. Terry was in your area for the free kick which lead to your 3rd with just 1 defender back covering.

We lacked pace all through the middle of the pitch, the press here are blaming the defence, but the mids being slow made us open for counter attacks and the long ball.....I really should be England Manager on £6m a year.....hell I would do it for £50,000 a year. :)

Nice discussion here ;-)...

I don't think that germanys strength can be only declared with the person Oezil. Surely he is brilliant, but if he would be injured I think that players as Mueller, Marin would also be able to lead this team. Most important for the way Özil plays is the fact, that he is free from defensive tasks and has in person of Schweinsteiger a brilliant defmid behind. This combination is the fact why the game looks attractive as ist does actually, and the reason why I think that it could also work with other players. Maybe not that fantastic as with Özil, but maybe good enough to win the game too ;-)...

Also I think that we had brilliant playmakers in the past, think about Matthäus, Häßler, Möller...

Do you really think that they'd pay you 50.000 a year for getting another 44 years without winning anything ;-)?!
2010-06-28 13:41:39
LOL that is extremely harsh. I guided my team to the Treble one year as player manager and my sons team to a double two years in a row. :)

Oezil is a player like a Gerrard or Lampard who makes good runs into space and finishes / creates chances well. We stupidly never play one of them and we always fail to play a def mid or two good enough to release them for this.

You guys are just far more efficient in everything, even your cars I prefer to ours........ok maybe I would like an Aston Martin over a Volkswagen. ;)
2010-06-28 13:43:22
PS I agree your midfield does allow Oezil to have that free role without defensive work 0- and it works well!

However I do not agree that you can put Lothar Matthaus in the same bracket as Oezil....no no. nein nein nein! lol

Your midfield was definitely your problem. You had just very good centre midfielders on the field, which are all good at centre (with Gerrard and Lampard also good completer) but for sure no winger or playmaker. England missed therefore some kind of ideas and creativity the whole tornament. Gerrard on the left side would scare no big team at this tournament. On this position he is robbed his biggest strenghts. ;)
2010-06-28 13:47:59
I could not agree more and is what 99% of English people have been saying....the manager being the other 1%. :(

I do feel we missed Ferdinands pace at the back though, he anticpates well too despite being quick, like Canavarro used to.
