The South African userbase is in quite a sorry state. Officially, we're down to 10 managers but two of those (Bennie and curtleigh) haven't logged in since early November. Effectively we've got 8 managers actually playing the game.

On the plus side, those 8 seem to be active and here to stay, hopefully.
Six are currently in the Premiership (two of those will face playoffs to retain their spots), while Schalla and Witbank are in league II.04. Congrats to Schalla for winning that division and hopefully your playoff will be against one of the premiership bots.

If anyone has any ideas for boosting our userbase, go for it!

Maybe it's an option to spam every single Hattrick-user.

In Belgium we went from 1500 to 3000 users in 2 months. Problem is that we lost the most of them again.

One could, but dont know what that will do, hell i used to bly hattrick big time for long time then just stoped
2008-12-24 09:18:45
Same here.

But the fact is that people who play hattrick are potential sokker-players...

Maybe you guys should ask friends to start with, but since football (soccer) is not that popular in South-Africa i guess that isn't easy...

Not popular? I'd guess it's easily the biggest sport there is over here.

I'm posting on some 2010 WC related Facebook boards. Maybe we'll get lucky and pick up a few people.

I live in Zim and I once asked a friend of mine whom I play with and often introduce to many games to give SK a try.

Soccer if popular in just about every country in Africa.

The problem is that of internet access. I use my connection at work and started most games whilst at university when I had complete access to it.

When I was in your country (2005), nobody seemed to care about sokker. I must say that I only asked youth... and they all played rugby :p

Historically, white South Africans play rugby and cricket but black South Africans play soccer. Blacks outnumber whites many times over. As Phibeon said, internet access is low, especially amongst the poorer population, most of which is black.

This situation is changing, but it's slow. The black middle class is growing, internet connections are becoming more affordable, and whites are starting to show an interest in local soccer, not just Man Utd and Liverpool. ;)

then that's a good evolution :)

Here it's really popular, every little town has it's football club, sometimes more then one. 50% of the boys between 6 and 10 plays football.

Rugby is by far South Africa's best sport and has been for years! When i grew up, granted i am white i never had any exposure to soccer at all. Many people in South Africa only starting getting computer literate and getting into Internet so you should see it grow. What is actually needed is to spam the PSL forums, because there is a fast number of people that post there and follow soccer and most of them are new to Internet( previously disadvantaged) so they would not necessarily been exposed to games like sokker.

South-Africa should get a promotion leader to.

Since last week, every country is getting one. I'm the one for Belgium. Someone of you guys allready heard a mod about it ?

If not, someone of you should do it. You get rights to the linguist forum.

Never heard of it. What's a promotion leader, and what's a linguist forum?

news to me 2
2008-12-30 06:57:17
News to me also :)

I am a black Zimbabwean just to put things in perspective.

Most people I know who love football are also not web games fanatics like me. I am a web game fanatic and have played other games which I know little about like rugby and actually do well even though I dont know really know what a scrumhalf really is :)

My point is really that some folks just see games as for kids though I have always begged to differ.

Let us really look for people who like games across.

Thanks Marc,

It looks like I might get into the premiership after this season. On the sorry state of our database. There seems to be a huge number of South Africans on trophymanager.com (TM). I am playing on it as well for about a season now, but it is not nearly as good as sokker.org. The only nice thing about TM is that you play 2-3 league games a week and if you stay in the cup it can be up to 4 games a week, but they have no actual game footage. You just sit and stare at a screen while what is happeningon the pitch is getting typed for you.

Some other users on TM have complained that their match engine is crap and they do not neccessarily award good scouting, training, planning, etc. (A team ranked 80th can sometimes easily beat a team ranked under the top 10). I have refferred them to sokker.org on the forums there. Hopefully we'll get a few of them joining us soon.

Thanks for pointing them our way. I'd never heard of TM before.

Congrats for getting your promotion to the Premiership!

It'll be much tougher there than what you've faced in the lower divisions, so look for any opportunities to strengthen your team.
