Subject: Current SA Users

Thanks for pointing them our way. I'd never heard of TM before.

Congrats for getting your promotion to the Premiership!

It'll be much tougher there than what you've faced in the lower divisions, so look for any opportunities to strengthen your team.

I'd never heard of TM before.

I have. We have a similar issue to you lot. Lots of users in TM, so I went to see why there's so many users there and not here. I couldn't see anything outside of more games per week and perhaps a better graphical presentation on the main page. Other than that Sokker wins everything else.

Hope you get a few from there.

I just noticed that there are 3 people awaiting teams right now. I don't know if that's happened before in these parts. Hopefully it's a good sign.

Well I posted on TM forums this morning stating that we need some help with our database over here. One guy replied stating that I was spamming and he did not seem very happy, but there are alot of users on TM so hopefully someone heard my plea.

I had a conversation with my brother about this (don't know how we ended up talking about this, but let's leave it there). I don't know what the sokker admins do for promotion of the manager site (I found it through a search engine), but I've been told by a birdie (my bro) that TM (which he played at varsity) used to advertise on websites such as mousebreaker and miniclip (online game sites) and that is where they grew their user numbers primarily. Do you guys think it might be a good idea to mention this to the admins and see if that can get get more Sokker users (and hopefully a few SA ones)? My brother also told me that while he was studying his whole hostel would play regularly on the abovementioned sites (as students do) and quite a few of them ended up playing TM as well through the advertising. I asked my brother to join us and he said that he has wasted enough of the time of the time in his life playing that crap :-) (I think it might have something to do with his wife being preggers)...so don't bargain on him joining us. Just a thought from my side. What to you guys think?

Never heard of those sites myself. Just had a look at them now. Do they get much in the way of South African users? It would be great if we could find similar local sites as well.

I really don't know if they get alot of SA users, but if you look at TM with 140 odd SA users it might well be. I don't know if there any any similar SA sites - I doubt it, but I'll have a look and let you know.

Found two skillpod.co.za and zulugames.co.za

this game needs to be advertised more

TM > Sokker in advertising

plus many people don't like the 1 game/week schedule

But yes...leaving out the above drawbacks - this game is better than TM

It's 2 games per week. If you're out of the cup, make sure you arrange friendlies instead.

Actually, thinking of that, I'm going to try to set up a friendly league for South African managers, starting in week 7. We can have 10 teams, each playing each other once.

I've never set up a league before, so I'll try to figure it out and send out invitations, or however it works. We've got 12 SA managers, so it'll have to be 'first come first serve' if all 12 want to join in.

So how does it look MarcL? Are we going to get that friendly league going next week or should I start making other plans?
2009-02-26 16:22:44
It's set now.

The stupid system would only accept an even number of teams, even with only one round, so I had to wait for one more team or for someone to drop out. As it turns out, someone set a friendly for next week so we're now down to 4 teams and will play each other twice.

That gives us matches from week 7 to week 12.

I'll try to schedule it again next season and hopefully we'll have more participants since we'll have more notice.
