Heehee. :)
One more easy game would have been nice, but Ireland will be an interesting match.
Australia and Canada are the two most skilled teams in the tournament. A shame to have them playing at this juncture. Good for the rest of us though. :)

Line-up is all set for Ireland. Potentially a really entertaining game between two well matched sides.
I've gone into some tactical detail in the South Africa Association forum. For those who have access and want to see more about my pre-match thoughts (and maybe add a few of their own), please stop by. :)

Well, I thought it was going to be a better game. And it should have been. My apologies everyone. I expected the team to go further in this tournament.
I guess I'm a slow learner. I've tried that somewhat tricky placement with Mabizela several times now, and each time it's been an unmitigated failure. He was supposed to be the focus of the offence today, and didn't see much of the ball. When he did get the ball he wasn't able to do much with it. This was all due to my poor positioning.
Ireland's superior team passing was quite clear. They often made a series of nice passes criss-crossing the pitch. South Africa's creativity was pale by comparison.
The Kanku Sait injury was a killer. I wasn't quite sure who to use in his spot. Put Malatsi in there at the last moment, and he was absolutely awful. His tackling is still a work in progress - I wasn't expecting him to pick the ball clean - but I was expecting him to get enough of the ball to chip it out and not let his mid run free down the sideline. Fail.
So ... that's the last of the drama this season. Focus from here will be getting some competitive friendlies, and keeping the team's head above the 1600 rank point mark for the next WC draw.

The passing by the team today did seem particularly poor. Somehow even our pacey players seemed to be on go slow mode as well.
