Subject: Help train our youngsters

MarcL [del] to All
Guys, our u21's are in a sorry state at the moment. We had a couple of seasons where the side was pretty decent, but last season was weak and this season they look even worse.

I think this new method in the junior schools hasn't helped since it's almost impossible to figure out which players are talented enough to keep. We end up keeping just about anything and are producing a lot of poor players. If anyone has any suggestions for improving our squad of young players, please post here or send me sk-mails.

In the meantime, I'd like to start with our active managers, and training. I'll post a lost of info that you will already know, but it will help any newcomers that join the ranks.

At the moment, we have:
MarcL -> This season will be training a variety of skills, but mostly passing/playmaking
Theunis -> Trains strikers, doing technique this season
Jackzakk ->
Schalla -> Defending in future plans but striker Mlaba is current focus
Witbank ->

No other coaches have posted anything of the forum so I can't assume they're active. One (Veripikauta) has joined the junior leagues but the stupid system appears to have stuck him on his own in the division below the rest of us.

Our coaches are an important factor. I realise that finances affect the quality of those coaches but it's vital that we get the best we can afford. For your junior coach and the 3 assistants to the head coach, the overall rating is what counts (my junior coach is magical, my 3 assistants are magical, brilliant, brilliant). For the head coach, he MUST be UNEARTHLY at the skill that you are training in any particular week - other high skills are a bonus amd the overall rating is pretty much irrelevant.

I know that sometimes it is difficult to get suitable trainees and buying from abroad can't helped but, where possible, please train South African youngsters if you can. On a similar note, if you have any players that are 21 or younger, they MUST play every week for a full 90 minutes (assuming not injured/suspended) or their training is wasted. If you have such players, please sell them so that hopefully someone else will train them. Remember to arrange friendlies every week if you're not in the cup. That extra match is vital for training.

Next, some tips regarding specific skill training:

Stamina -> Your entire squad trains whether they play or not. Your positional selection (GK, DEF, MID, ATT) makes no difference. People underestimate the importance of stamina and tend to leave it alone. My advice is to train it during weeks 15 and 0 when you only have 1 match to play.
Pace -> Every player that plays during the week will be trained. Again, the position selection makes no difference.
Striker -> Select ATT and make sure your 3 trainees in each match play with ATT orders. Note that you don't actually have to play with 3 striker in your formation but the trainees must have ATT order - eg. your wing can play as an ATT instead of MID and will receive striker training. It will make a difference to how he plays though.
Passing -> Select MID and make sure your 5 trainees in each match play with MID orders.
Playmaking -> Select MID and make sure your 5 trainees in each match play with MID orders.
Defending -> The positional selection between DEF, MID, ATT actually doesn't matter. However, since you can only train 3 attackers at once, it is best to choose DEF or MID and make sure your 5 trainees in each are playing with the DEF or MID order.
Technique -> Exactly the same as defending. This is why you will notice that Theunis has his strikers playing with MID orders this season (makes it easier for the rest of us! ;) ). It means he can train 5 players in technique each match instead of just 3.

Also, remember the maximum for each match is 1 GK, 5 DEF, 5 MID, 3 ATT. Using any more than any of those will mean forfeiting training for that week. In other words, you can actually have a formation with 6 defenders if you like, but only 5 of them can play with DEF orders.

Finally, if a player plays in two matches during 1 week, make sure that he is given the same order for each match, regardless of the position he plays in, or he will lose training.

Whew...that's a lot of info. Hope it helps someone!

If you guys are willing, please let us know what you're training this season and we can try to go forward from there.

If you want to sell player write to me sk@.. i will try to search potential buyer in Poland where your player will get training every week. With few active managers we have to take care of every young player including weaker players too. If you change training and you won't train your young player from South Africa the best choice is selling him to other club... and better will be showing first player in advertisments ;) You can find buyer and stipulate price :) If you write that your player have chances for playing in u21 team and in the future in NT but he has to train with all the time you will find buyer and everybody will be happy :P You will get money, buyer will train player and maybe will have u21 player and u21 team will have next great player in team.

If your player is young, from South Africa and you won't train him just write me about it and add him to transfer advertisments :)

Yes, I thought I would be a fan of this new junior school process, but as you say, it is almost impossible to determine which players are worth training. I would desperately love to help out with the training of defenders, but I do not have any good defensive trainees at the moment. I will therefore focus my efforts on the development of striker Joel Mlaba. If I do find any promising defensive trainees I will definately let you guys know.

I've used the axe on my juniors today, getting rid of six of them.
This now leaves me with 23, so room for 7 more.

I think it might be a good idea to make a policy of keeping about 6 slots open, culling the worst of the bunch every couple of weeks.

As a general guideline, I'm tending to keep all that will emerge as 16 or 17 year olds. For the olders players, I'm using solid-very good- excellent as a general target for the 18-19-20 year olds at the point when they're ready to leave. Even these levels are very low, but I don't really have much quality right now, and some leeway with this new system is probably a good idea.

I'll look at tightening restrictions if I'm tending to max out my squad of 30.

I'm bumping this thread up for two reasons.

The post by Brokus is a good one and makes a lot of sense. If you have a decent looking young player with any potential whatsoever, let's work together to try to find trainers for them.

Secondly, I want to re-emphasise some important training points.

1. Make sure your coach is unearthly at the skill you're training.

2. Try to have as many South African youngsters to train as the skill allows (1 for GK, 5 for Def/tech/pass/play, 3 for str, 11 for pace). Double that if you're willing to train two squads but you won't have a very strong first team.

3. Make sure you're playing two matches every week (except the off season one where you don't have a choice). If you're out of the cup, book friendlies! They're easy to get by reading or posting on the thread in the main forum (sokker international).

4. Make sure that your trainees play at least 90 minutes every week (unless injured). If you've got players aged 21 or younger that are not playing every week, sell them. See Brokus' post above.

Now if only we could get some new managers to stick around and make use of this info.
The u21 squad is looking really sorry right now, and we need all the trainees we can get.

well - interesting plan

It is also important to use in the absence of positive, use different programs to help the club administrations. eg sokker viewer. helps determine the player's talent and decide whether it should continue to train

as I wrote earlier to MarcL if someone has a young defenders, I am very happy together and it promises to its growth :-)

I know many same-training users of different formations at a very high level, so if you want to sell anyone younger also write me I'll help sell it to the user good.

it is very important especially for the defenders because the staff is their oldest :-(

small countries have to keep all juniors and train them mostly abroad. As RSA coach I tried to find potentia buyers for our players u21 and older. The same i did with Japan, Canada and now with Polska sometimes(we have a lot of players but every is important in my opinion).

You have new users.. in my opinion you should be their tutor and help them. Sb must introduce them in game.. it's hard to 'learn' sokker when you are newbie.

exactly in Poland tutors send a message to each new user with important news for beginners. leisure time and translate it now shows just how it looks here in Poland. a good idea to introduce this all the more that is unlikely to send users so it is not long.

Any pace trainees to share with me? I would like to help the nation a bit, if you have some youngsters who don't recieve the best training possible maybe. If there are only two active users remaining in the nation, then every player from those youth school should recieve training.
