Thanks Seca.
Yep, I thought the winger posed the only real threat and took a chance with Baloyi to counter him. That's the risk you take when you position your players based on what your opponent might do. :)
Long way to go still, and have to figure out how to keep the goals down when we go up against Poland (and Germany)!

Hello,
I've read your postings here and analyzed your tactics (as far as possible at the moment :( ). You are doing a great job with such a few amount of active users.
Lets have a nice game on Saturday. I am a little afraid cause of it. Playing against you will not be as easy as against the Nigerian NT. It will be hard to win for us.
Best regards.

Thanks Hallenser. :)
I know that we can't expect any points from this game, but we'll be trying. We did alright in the friendly a few weeks ago and we had a bunch of players missing, especially in defence, so I'm hoping we can do better.
I'm still not sure what tactics to use against you though! Will have to figure it out today.

I am happy cause it wasn't as difficult as I thought before.
Very quick 2-0 and after it, you did not come near our goal.
We had a lot of big chances and there could have been more goals for Germany.
Don't be sad, you will go your way, I am sure. :)
Best Regards.

After the penalty in the first minute, things weren't looking good. When our defender was sent off after half-an-hour, there was no hope.
We missed two easy chances (we only had 2 shots!) but it could easily have been far worse than 0-4.
It would be nice to play Germany one day and not get a player sent off. :(
Good luck in the WC!

Good try against Germany. Just a nightmare first 3 minutes, but the team settled down a bit from there.
I'm a little surprised Behr is still (or appears to be) the #1 striker after all these seasons. Thought some young buck would have taken his job by now. :)

Heh. Yeah, should be glad it wasn't double figures.
Makes qualifying really difficult. Guess I just have to focus on winning the games that aren't against Germany or Poland, and hope for the best.

We've got an important game against Nigeria today.
So far, they've beaten Island 2-1 and recorded that freak 1-1 draw with Poland. Their losses have been 0-5 to Deutschland and 2-3 to Srbija.
We recorded better scores than them against Island, Deutschland and Srbija and should have the advantage. If we're going to maintain our challenge for 3rd spot in the group, this is a must win game.
I've got a full squad to choose from, so there can't be any excuses.

That was a 'workmanlike' performance, resulting in a 1-0 win. Nigeria set up shop with a wall at the back including a 5 man back line and 2 very defensive mids, the same tactic they used against Poland in that 1-1 draw, and it almost worked again.
We managed to dominate the play but only took 1 of our 11 chances. They managed to have a few chances themselves and we've seen situations like that go bad before, so I definitely would've been happier with another goal or two. Still, a win is a win.
As for WC qualification, the team has done all that could have been expected, but it's not going to be enough at this rate. We will need to repeat this effort in the 2nd round of matches with wins against Nigeria, Srbija and Island AND get a point off either Deutschland or Polska if we're going to qualify. Either that or score dozens of goals. It's unlikely that enough other 3rd placed teams will drop enough points for us to get through any other way.
The situation is that only 6 of the 13 third placed teams will qualify. As it stands right now, the 6th best of those is Peru on a +9 goal difference. We're 11th best, level on points with the 2nd best, but with a -7 goal difference, thanks to being grouped with Polska and Deutschland.
