What can I say about today's match... It was an extremely tight battle again and either side could have won. I guess we just happened to be luckier today.

It's very tough for me to make this team play properly if our defenders hit the ball out of the field for like 5 times in a row. We don't have such a vast range of players to choose from too so I can't just replace the ones who don't know how to make a pass. I believe though that I'll try to use some defenders with more playamaker and passing skills in the next match against Danmark.

The first half was quite good today for us but the second half was a disaster again. Eventually we managed to score as much as we needed for a victory but overall the game was really poor. Slovensko was especially good at the start of the second half and we were under pressure for a long while.

Kueinskas did his job today as usual but both Sirotavicius and Ašutaitis managed to do nothing really. I was glad about Juknys who stepped in to score the goal that our strikers couldn't. Too bad about his injury in the end.

I hope the keeper will get other pace, because with a higher pace-level the 3rd goal wouldn't have taken place.

Lietuva's 3rd match is against NZ. NZ has got 2 Belgian coaches who are very skilled. They have beaten Italy in a friendly and Denmark in the 1st WC-match. They often use different tactics, which makes NZ very unpredictable. Those guys will certainly have watched every Lietuva game of the last 3 months, that's for sure.

Good luck.

New Zealand beat Slovensko 2-0 today... I'm now believe your every word that we should be extremely careful against them :D

They can play with wingers like last week, or asymmetric midfield like today.

If Lietuva wins today's match, they are automatically qualified. But next week you should win in order to avoid strong countries in de 1/8-finals.

Very nice win of Lietuva! Good defense and very dangerous attacks. With such result even a draw against NZ is okay next week.

Congrats!

Many thanks :) I'm quite pleased myself too :P

I decided to play without wingers today as I thought they would probably cover both wings with defenders as they did indeed. Watching the match today it actually seems that playing without high wingers is even way more effective for our team. The central midfield was stronger and Grybauskas along with Varaneckas produced excellent through passes all the time.

I must admit I think the Danish placement of defenders was not the best as the three central defenders were often too wide-spread, allowing our strikers to run through the gaps. However, all of our three strikers made great performances today. Palmileras was especially good and I think the score would have been even bigger if we had played the second half too. But I wanted to see how the young Figurinas would do and if he could be considered as an option too when the other strikers can't make it. He was quite good actually and overplayed the Danish defense with his pace, although he needs a bit more time to develop his scoring skill. :)

I am very happy about the defenders too, Ruckevicius and Kisielius held the ball on the pitch perfectly and their defense and pace skills seemed to be adequate to manage with the defensive work. Another player I wanted to mention was laimis Lapinskas, a great midfielder who I just recently discovered, I don't know how I hadn't noticed him before. It's excellent that I finally found out about him because we were just in need of a versatile and skillful central midfielder after the injuries of Kaknevieius and Juknys as well as Medelis falling out of form.

I liked your tactic: Miskys covered the defence and made sure defence and midfield sticked together, without many gaps.

On the other hand you still had a quite creative midfield, with 2 semi-wingers and a central midfielder who managed to pass the ball to the strikers.

Scotland beat Italy, Hrvatska beat Nederland, NZ beat Slovensko. A balanced tactic is very important.

Grts!

glad you appreciated Laimis Lapinskas... he was trained by a great trainer, but never seemed to really get much appreciation in Lithuania ;)

Dangis Jodis, age: 17
value: 44 000 €, wage: 725 €
club: SCP., country: Lietuva
adequate form, unsatisfactory tactical discipline

weak stamina, tragic keeper
adequate pace, hopeless defender
average technique, adequate playmaker
hopeless passing, good striker

Do you think he has NT chanses, maybe when he has a good talent

Great win of Lietuva. NZ played quite centrally and Sillu did anticipate this.

NZ could never have controlled two wingers. Now Lietuva is the group winner, which they deserve!

Now the finals arrive, against a country that isn't group winner. I think Lietuva is doing great. Most NT's will play with a winger, and if Lietuva can cope with that they could reach very far. Lietuva's strikers can hurt every team.

Congrats!

Zlobas super star :)
3 assists :)

Yeah, the last two matches have been really successful to my surprise.

I was a bit afraid before the match whether using two wingers was a good idea but fortunately New Zealand didn't cover the wings almost at all. We both played some reserve players in our line-ups and the important thing is there were no injuries and cards.

Žlobas was of course brilliant again. It was absolutely fantastic to see a 20-year-old player overplay defenders so well and give passes with such accuracy in a World Cup match. He was way better than both Grybauskas and Juknys today.

México - Polska
Hrvatska - Lietuva
France - España
Italia - Scotland
Brasil - Deutschland
New Zealand - België
Magyarország - England
Suomi - Česká republika

Except for Italy, Hrvatska is one of the strongest adversaries. They play very organized, and often use a winger.

Scotland-Italy will again be a thriller :o)

Good luck!

Croatia is indeed one of the toughest among the teams we could have got. For sure it's going to be the hardest match of my time as the manager of Lietuva so far. Hopefully an exciting one too :)

Italy was close to falling out in the group stages already but they've improved with every match so I think Scotland's awesome run might end in this round.

Scotland better not lose, otherwise tennislover's form might drop as he loses the chance to play against his teammates in the worldcup and gets a little upset :P

strange how there are no "locals" chatting in this thread, are they interested in their own NT side?
