Subject: U21 Lietuva

Next Sunday, Lietuva is going to face a very tough opponent, Suomi. This country is a rising NT, ready to get into the top 5 of the ranking.

They usually play with a winger, so putting fast and strong side defenders will be important. At least 4 defenders are necessary in my opinion ...

There is some space in between their defense and midfield, and on both sides of midfield... but they're unpredictable in tactics. It will certainly be a hard game.

Suomi beated top class countries. Against strong countries they tend to play with a (semi-)winger. This implies the use of at least 4 defenders to protect the sides.

Midfield mostly consists of 4 players. And then 4 strikers. Personally I would try an a-typic midfield: trying to get advantage form eventual gaps that were visible during past matches:

During possession the back defenders with a * can slightly move forward.

Of course the coach has to make a decision based on his players, whose skills we don't know ;o)

4-2 in favour of Suomi.

Tactically it wasn't a bad game. Suomi scored due to strong strikers, and not because of really tactical mistakes of Lietuva.

Nevertheless, putting 2 defensive MIDs (instead of 1) on the pitch could have favoured more coverage for the defensive line-up.

It was often kind of a 4-1-3-2. This caused some spaces for Suomi midfielders, which is to avoid when the strikers are so strong.

I'm so proud of my boys because game was U21 Suomi - U22 Lietuva :)

Strong team you have there, and a big future. Lietuva can't miss the train, because other countries are working very hard with their youngsters ....

I think n°1 and 2 will qualify for the World Cup. The opponents could have been stronger, but Chile and Ireland are not so easy to beat. Eevery player has become 1 year older, so the past U21-results can give a wrong image.
