hi. i've been going to sauna 3-4 times weekly for the past 5 years and as i'm always trying to enhance my experience there i thought who could know more about this than suomi people. i do ice shower afterwards, on saturday cold beer, sometimes i use mint flavor in water i pour on rocks... so, do you have some other cool tips?

Maybe some sausages in aluminium foil on the rocks.

Tai sitten vihta tai vasta.

Korppi's suggestion is very good - make "vihta" (bath whisk?) from birch branches. Below you can see how it's done.

Dip your vihta in water and smash yourself with it! :=)

Winter time we go spinning in the snow and then back to sauna. It's very freshing also - with couple beer of cource...

mmmmkay, birch branches.. we have that tree around here so it should be no problem :)

just a question, how does whipping myself with that help me ? ;)

It washes away your sins... Just kidding. :)

You can watch the movie Sauna or the trailer from youtube to hear that line.

But the wipping actually feels good and your sauna will smell really good. Just put your vasta or vihta (same thing but lokally called different) to a bucket of water so it wont dry up and all the leafs wont fall.

It works out in a kind of massage that improves your blood circulation. The effect is not as big as in ice shower (or winter swimming) but you can still feel it.
