Tuskimpa ketään kiinnostaa mutta tässä on vähän infoa tuolta. Pari vuotta oli todella hiljaista omistajien puolelta mutta nyt alkanut tapahtuun pikkuhiljaa.

BACK TO DEVELOPMENT

Almost 2 years ago since the last update on the Development Blog, we are back with more updates and with an explanation first.

Since the last major feature introduction in early 2012 (City NTs & Social Items), we haven´t introduced any major relevant content in the game. We have added a couple of small new features here and there, but nothing really relevant. Of course that we haven´t abandoned the game as we have been assuring its normal maintenance by fixing bugs, answering tickets and solving urgent community / administration issues. Even if we are well aware that this is not enough, we had a strong reason for this.

Starting somewhere mid 2012, we had to accept a couple of external contracts with other companies to help with our month-to-month expenses. As we are a small team, this prevented us from dedicating full development time to FS. For sure we have tried but we rapidly came to the conclusion that this was not possible, at least until we had these contracts going. We are releasing this information now because these contracts are finally over and we are finally ready to put our hands in the code (starting in early November), as this game really deserves.

Over the last couple of weeks we have had a couple of meetings with a representative of the our community where we´ve summed up some of their ideas and presented some of our own as well. We were able to have some really productive encounters, that resulted in the information we are releasing today.

So here´s what we´re going to work in the upcoming months. We are not going to enter into many technical details right now, but we will release more detailed development blogs as soon as we get our hands into the business. Please be also aware that some features are still under consideration and are marked that way in this list. The reason we are presenting them is also to allow further discussion in the FS community.

Federation Presidents to control National league structures.
This is a feature that we have some written code already. It was during the development of this feature that we have released that we had no conditions to work on the game as long as our external contracts were over. Therefore we hope to have this released first. Being this the next upcoming feature, we will let you know most of the details:
- Federation Presidents (FPs) will be able to add & remove more divisions to the national league structure
- This can only be done/set before the new season starts and all the changes will be applied during the season change procedures.
- FPs can only remove an entire division. Due to the complexity of the current FS league structure (don´t forget playoffs) it´s not possible to allow a greater deal of flexibility.
- The only condition FPs have to remove a division is that the number of human teams in the division they want to remove must be available in the division immediately above. Example: if your D division has 5 human teams, there must be 5 bot teams in C. When we say bot, we say without a manager. Unprotected teams are not bot teams.
- In order to add a new division, the FP must have a 75% or more occupation rate in the country. This means that if a country has one division only, 6 or more human teams must exist. This means 18 human teams to create a C division, etc.
- All human teams in removed divisions will be automatically placed in available top divisions.

Now, heading into the next confirmed features...

Match Engine related updates
We´re not heading for major updates in the way things work at the moment, but instead we want to improve some key areas, as well as improve the range of match events:
- Increase the likelihood of yellow cards
- Severe improvement of GK behavior, including the revision of penalty GK efficiency (too high at the moment)
- Allowing managers to set new types of events such as fitness based, match rating based
- This is not yet 100% confirmed but we will look into the possibility to allow changing team/advanced orders (horizontal & vertical spreads, team organizer, etc)
- New team/advanced order: team captain (using influence talent to give teammates very small skill bonuses)

Competitions
- (ongoing work on Federations)
- Allowing teams to create official B teams (with the same rules of youth teams when moving players) in the national league structure. These teams can never be in the division of the main team and can be created & maintained by the main team and by the players of the team as well (in a similar way cities are created)
- Improve bot teams quality/AI in higher divisions. Not 100% confirmed at this time.
- Allowing Federation Presidents to open up their countries up to 100% foreign presence (subject to national polls of course). Right now the max. is 50%.

Experience
- Create a link between ITC team rankings and experience bonuses in national leagues. Initial idea: 1xp point per match for top third ranked teams (the same), 0,9xp for middle ranked teams and 0,8xp for lower ranked teams. This is per continent of course, we will not group all countries in a single ITC ranking.
- We will introduce bonuses and penalties in experience gains according to the age. Younger players will get penalties and these penalties will be reduced until 27 years old, where they´ll be 0%. After 27, there will bonuses instead. For example: 20% penalty @ 17 years old, 0% penalty @ 27 years old, 20% bonus at 37 years old. A fair retroactive change must be applied for the system to work properly though. The idea is to introduce the experience peak at a later age.

Player Skills
- New player skills, based on the skills we have right now. Some of the skills have different functions; we will divide those functions into skills, in a logical way. We will of course allow current players to divide their current skills through the new skills.
- Players must pick 2 skills where they can get to 100. Others will can only get to 85 max. As the last item, we would allow current players to make this decision and divide the remaining skills through other skills. We are also considering a way to allow players to switch these 2 skills at specific points of their careers.
- [Still under consideration] Introduction of weight and height in players. Different combinations will affect different skills / positions.
- [Still under consideration] Relate fame with the visibility of lower skills. If a player is famous you will get to see all of this skills. On the other side, if a player has low fame, his smaller skills won´t be visible at all.

Money
- Introduce game actions at the cost of money & interaction points. Examples: very small morale gains, very small fitness gains, confidence gains, etc etc. This included in specific actions such as "going out to a party", "go to the gym", "give newspaper interview", etc
- Include money in National Federations. Federations will get money from World Cups, setting taxes to clubs (transfer taxes, national league entry fee, etc) and would pay fees to players (national team & city team call ups), set league awards (teams & players), etc.
- Introduction of casinos in cities with different mini-games
- Structures inside clubs that require money (both from players & clubs) to give specific bonuses (fitness, morale, confidence, etc)
- Introduction of lotteries (managed by the Federations / FS Administration) at the cost of money / FS Coins.

Other Features
- Improve the design of player medals
- Add more medals to other important players achievements
- Revive the famous names auctions.
- Create a small link between attendances and league rankings (using ITC)
- Improve public forums (polls) and private forums (polls, additional text format options, images, etc). Also add optional answer notifications, posts from friends notifications, information when a topic you´ve created is moved or deleted.
- [Still under consideration] Open specific parts of the code to the community, allowing everyone to collaborate with the development of the game (ME code, Match viewer, Tactics viewer)

We will use the Development Blog to mark our progress.

Federation Presidents and National league structures

So, the feature has been released officially now: Presidents can "order" the changes right away if they want. We are still working on the feature though. We have decided to release immediately the "front-end" code so that Presidents can work/think on the system with some time in advance. This will also give them the necessary time to inform their community.

In the meanwhile we will finish the back-code. The back-coding is essentially all the necessary scripts to make these changes work at the end of season. Some of the code is already written, but there is like 80% of the code still to be written & tested.

This should be pretty quick though. Our estimation is 1 ~ 2 weeks to have it ready. We are looking forward to finish this in order to move to more interesting features, like the Match Engine

Stay tuned!

FS Development: Feds & League Structure: check! Next: Player Skills...

So, we have now concluded all the coding in this feature and it took us only one week to complete everything (if you remember correctly, we estimated this in 1~2 weeks at our latest blog entry). This means we are ready to move to other features.

Based on the document we have presented the community a couple of weeks ago (in this very same development blog), we have decided to proceed with "player skills" section. These changes will be quite complex in terms of coding and hopefully not too confusing for you guys. So what do we intend to change?

First we want to introduce more skills. These skills will come from current roles of other skills, that can be split into new functions / skills. The skills we´ll be introducing are:

- Acceleration: the time it takes for a player to reach his top speed. This is actually a new feature, no other current skill had this feature.

- Jumping (from heading):
* When two players are at the same control zone when a ball reaches them, and the ball is high, heading skills are compared using a formula to decide which player wins the ball.
* Heading directly affects how high a player can reach the ball. A lower heading skill means the player will not reach very high balls.

- Marking (from speed): A player with high speed skill reaches higher speeds than a player with low speed skill, when trying to reach an opponent.

- Set Pieces: A new skill to be used in set pieces instead of finishing (Penalties/Short Freekicks), long shots (Long Distance Freekicks), crosses (Corners)

- First Touch (from technique): After receiving a ball, technique affects the time the player takes to take full control the ball, if the player received the ball either with his chest or foot. A low technique skill will mean the player will be forced to lose other skills if he attempts a first time action, or take more time to fully control the ball.

- Command of Area (GK only, from agility): It directly affects the keeper´s control zone. A keeper with low skill will not be able to get as far to a ball as a keeper with an higher skill.

At the same time we will do our best to improve long shots and the way players and GKs react to these kind of shots.

All this means a lot of background changes and some options we will have to allow you to make choices on how you will split your skills into all the remaining skills. We will probably allow you to make this change a couple of times (example: a first time and then another time in case you change your mind after some experience with the new skills).

We will not change training after introducing these new skills in order to allow more skills to be trained during a player career. Instead we will allow some really really small skill gains with game-actions from time to time (another new feature that we unveiled a couple of weeks ago).

Other new feature we will introduce is change the way players train once their skills grow above 75. We have decided NOT to cap skills at 85 and allow you to pick only 2 skills where you could max up until 100. Instead, as said, once your skills get to 75 they will start to increase at a smaller pace. And it will be harder to go from 80 to 85 than from 75 to 80. Each time your skill increase (above 75) it will be harder to get to the next skill. Up until 75, everything remains as up until today.

In order to make things fair for everyone we will reset all skills above 75 to 75. The remaining skill points will be available so that you can re-distribute them in the way you want, according to the new rules. Of course that, if, let´s say, you have 100 at speed and you want to put the 25 points you´ll get in speed, your final speed skill won´t be 100. It will be less than that, according to the new training method.

I understand that all of this might be a bit confusing so I´ll be available in global forums to clarify everything and to discuss any additional comment and/or suggestions. It´s important to say that there is still a long time ahead for this new development to arrive. We have estimated 2 months for everything to be concluded and we will make checkpoints in this blog. So stay tuned!

In conclusion I want to say that I´m sure that we all agree that we should have as many different types of players as possible in FS; and I´m sure this is the best way to achieve this.

Itsekin huomasin tuon ja siitä mainitsin joukkueen foorumilla. Jonkin verran muutoksia on tulossa...
