First disappointment...
After 3 victories we couldn't have win the match against South Africa.
I won't write here the thorough analysis, just give some points WHY.


1. The performance of our strikers.
We had a couple of 100% situations, a pity that none of them ended with scoring... You can accuse me of setting K. Berland as striker instead of Benjaminsen or Stensrud (or Michelsen with slight injury). Some decisions could be controversial, but I wouldn't have changed my mind here even now.

2. Defending of South Africa
Brian Lekgwathi played top-class match. He stoped lot of our actions. He was faster than our strikers, what limited our chances :(

3. Injuries & rests
Our top scorer, Michelsen has been slightly injured, therefore (after consultation with deallus) we decided to give him a rest this week and let him play no sooner than Wednesday.
I was also asked to give a break to Enoksen - I had substitution here, so I agreed.

4. Offsides
There were some...
Maybe the setting wasn't so 'perfect' as it could have been, but anyway I think it was good enough to win the match.

5. Bad luck
We had lot of luck last 3 victorious matches. This time we didn't have it - still a fair deal ;)


Now some comments to the substitutions:
Morken - nice debut, but nothing special; still looking for a better player
Stensrud - he is a striker, not a midfielder - he failed on this position
K. Berland - he neither disappointed, nor played great match. He had bad luck this match :(
Skaug - after this match he is very unsure of his position in the first line-up.


Tactic was OK, but the tactic is not the only thing that gives the result. Also the skills of players, one on one duels during the match and simply luck.
The result proves that we are not as strong as some people could think, considering last 3 results. It's better to realise this ealier, than to be disappointed later.

A bloody defeat :(((((

The match has proved that we are not so strong as one could have previously think, taking into account our previous results....
It shows that the wins against Danmark, Suomi and Sverige were really lucky rather than well deserved.

And the last thing: it proves how much effort everyone has to put in training and recruiting of new users, so that Norge could later win match after the match :((


I think the line-up I set for the match was one of the strongest we could have afford. Maybe a switch between Rusten and Skogheim could have been made ? Maybe K. Berland or Einarsen could have played... maybe Stensrud (if he wasn't injured) .... but what would it change ? The quality wouldn't improve much.

The sad truth is we don't have players good enough, to be able to compete with top Sokker national teams.






Now the analysis - what needs to be improved, what went wrong etc.

Reasons of losing 4 goals:
*pace of our defenders. The defenders are the best we have, but during the match they were noticeably slower than the strikers of Deutschland. You can see it many times during the match, when our defenders try to run to the front of the opponent striker then stop, turn back and start to chase him. Moreover, opposite strikers had nice defending - you can see that even our best technician Skogheim lost a ball a couple of times.

*1st goal: Teigland's fault. You can see that the striker was covered well, but Teigland didn't even react to the out !
Possible reason: pace.
*2nd goal - shot from the angle - really lucky goal. There were a player near the striker, but too far away. Those kind of goals can't be earlier secured. Also Forberg's behaviour was horible :(
*3rd goal... Wiig's mistake. Maybe the reason was not too great technique of Wiig's ? maybe his pace.
*4th goal - a set piece; even they were some of our defenders on spot, they did absolutely nothing to stop it :[[[

Reasons of not scoring any:
*our team bases it's strength mainly on the pace of our strikers. That means, that we expect our strikers to be faster than opponent defenders. Unfortunately Deutschland's top defender Voigt was a couple of times faster than any of our strikers, what completely damaged our offensive potential. You can see during the match that even after interception and going tstraight for the opponent goal, Skaug or Michelsen were chased and capture by him.
There goes my conception mistake I think I have made: our strikers should have played very near each other all the match long, so that if one of them lost the ball, the other could have continue running with it. I think this will improve during the next matches.
*the other way of scoring is passing improvement. The players (esp. midfielders) would be able to pass the ball more precisely to the strikers. We have some players really great here, but the problem is they extremely lack in technique and defending. Setting them in the squad would damage other things.



I'm sorry for this result. I also expected at least a levelled match, not losing 4 goals and not scoring any.

Having watched the match I really don't know if I were able to prevent such a bad defeat :((

Tactically speaking I don't know if there was much we could have done better, our boys were simply not good enough to beat Deutschland today!

The only thing I could have improved was striker setting - if they played very near each other there would *possibly* get a chance to shoot (or maybe even score).
But the resut would look like 1-4 or 2-4 then :(

I don't have any idea how else I could have prevented losing 4 goals, as I think the defenders weren't set so badly today :(((

Some individual mistakes of the players and there it goes....

Their strikers are better than our defenders and their defenders are better than our strikers - can't do anything about it :(


Considering the Poland scoring 4 goals only against actually a weak tactic and opponent .... I think that sk-bugs must have appeared today :(

Time to win - should I say ?

Today we play against Hrvatska. The match... like the other, but there's something more here....

I didn't manage to get good results against South Africa and Deutschland - still thinking that there could have been something done better.

And here comes our next opponent - a very strong team Hrvatska, ranked 19 (we are 12 now). After the last 2 results, everything but our victory would be a huge disappointment to me.....

I won't say here something like "if I lose, I'll resign", because it will make no sense....
Anyway, I've promised that Norge will be higher than 14th after the season (out of 36), and I'll try to achieve it.

At the beginning of the new season there will be new elections going on in Norge (just like in other countries). I probably won't be able to stand for the reelection, mainly because of private reasons: more and more of work at my university :(((

That means I won't have enough time to take care of Norge. I'll have to limit my time spent on SK, so won't be able to make tactic powerful enough. If I can't do something so good as I would like to, it's better to quit, than promise something and fail.

Another 0-3 defeat :[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[
This result makes me sick :((

Hrvatska had advantage in midfield (pace, technique...) and managed to get more chances than Norge.

First and second goal were much the same: problems with deciding who should cover the striker, shot from the angle and goal. It seems to be my setting mistake - as I thought the defender standing nearest to the goal would react (it didn't happen twice, which resulted in conceding 2 goals).

There were some substitutions prepared in case we were losing or drawing, but the engine seems not to work well - Stensrud and Teigland were supposed to come in, but it didn't take place !

If our midfield doesn't play during the match, we can't think of having any goal opportunity :(

Players in midfield should have high playmaking and passing (just to be abe to play the ball well), but also:
*very high technique to be able to dribble past the opponents (which none of our players has)
*or high defending (which is also lacking in our team).

If our best players have technique around good-solid, even the player with an average defending may take the ball from our players......


That's why the defending of Hrvatska was only adequate. Add the defending percentage of Hrvatska midfielders: 68% of Hrvatska defending was the job of their midfielders !!!!
And they needed only average defending skill to take the ball from our players - even from the front :(((((

Needless to say, the technique of the most of our midfielders is even worse than good :(



For now - it seems the Nordisk Championship was the only thing I managed to win properly :[[[[

After that... 3 matches without victory - moreover - WITHOUT SCORING ANY GOAL :((((

And here goes another one, against Italy.
Not even dreaming we'll be able to win :|
