Liverpool FC ready to rival Arsenal in battle to sign Marouane Chamakh
LIVERPOOL are ready to rival Arsenal in the battle to sign Bordeaux’s highly-rated striker Marouane Chamakh.
The Moroccan striker has been the subject of much speculation this season and is keen on a move to the Premier League determined to eager to sign a pre-contract.
Chamakh has long been linked with a move to Arsenal but the Gunners have not followed up their initial interest yet with a firm bid and that has alerted Rafa Benitez.
It is no secret the Liverpool manager wants to add to his strike force and Chamakh, a highly-rated 25-year-old, has ticks in all the right boxes, especially as he is on a Bosman.
He is eager for his future to be sorted out sooner rather than later – preferably during this transfer window – and the Reds are ready to give him a chance in the Premier League.
Chamakh’s contract with Bordeaux runs out this summer and he is free to sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs during January.
If Liverpool were to be successful in the pursuit for his signature, however, he would not move to Anfield until the end of the current campaign.

Kweetnie of dit er al gestaan heeft maar:
Liverpool FC reject £9million offer from Birmingham City for Ryan Babel
LIVERPOOL have rejected a £9million bid for Ryan Babel from Premier League rivals Birmingham City.
The unsettled Dutch international has endured a miserable season but manager Rafa Benitez has insisted he is not for sale.
City boss Alex McLeish has been promised £40million by owner Carson Yeung to strengthen his squad and is hoping to make Babel his “marquee” signing.
However, the Midlands club will have to increase their bid considerably if they are going to test Benitez’s resolve.
Liverpool paid Ajax around £11.5million for Babel in the summer of 2007 and if Benitez reluctantly allowed him to move on they would insist on at least recouping that fee.
Even if City made an offer Liverpool couldn’t refuse it’s uncertain whether the 23-year-old winger would accept a move to St Andrew’s.
McLeish’s side are flying high in the Premier League on the back of an 11-game unbeaten run but are unlikely to be able to offer the European football next season Babel would demand.
However, McLeish is desperate to land a left-sided player and said: “We won’t rule out a marquee signing, if there is someone out there who I think can make a huge difference to this team.
“We will do a lot of continued diligence and try and enhance the character of the dressing room.”

Ryan Babel's agent has claimed Liverpool are seriously considering selling the winger and that "five or six" clubs are interested in him.
Birmingham are believed to have tabled a bid of around £9million for Babel and, although agent Winne Haatrecht claims his client is still determined to succeed at Liverpool, he admitted they are looking at other options.
"We know that Liverpool are seriously thinking about the offer from Birmingham but we shall only consider a transfer if the clubs have an agreement," Haatrecht told De Telegraaf.
"Then we will see how Birmingham are building their squad, what the prospects are for the club and Ryan, and perhaps, after that an interview with the manager.
"I have sent details of all the interested clubs to Liverpool. There are about five or six of them.
"In general, Ryan still wants to succeed at Liverpool but, if the club concludes that it is better he leaves, we will have to think about the next chapter."

Maxi Rodriguez is normaal onderweg.
