why? it was just high defense, you can't set it up in a different way...and the defs weren't placed that high in the square that the freekick was played from.
Anyway, the tactic didn't work really well today. Still, missed penalty and a lot of 1 on 1 ending up in striker running on gk...ehh

R you kidding me? For freekicks the tactic goes to the central square, like with goal kicks. The square from which the freekick was played from, doesn't matter..
You can actually set your defense in a different way, but that means losing a bit of pressure advantage. It was a wrong choice of words by me ("mistake").. It's more of a gamble that you have to make. But this doesn't take away the fact that there are different ways of setting your defensive line.
Tbh, it was another "boring" game with not much fun in it, no genuine tactical idea that worked (Delmulle thing didn't work as good as it did last time). Watching 2 high def lines playing in this match viewer isn't very much fun..

exactly, that's why I'm saying that it's impossible to set up the defence in another way, if you want to keep the offside pressure at its best. :)

Of course. It is always risky to play like that, no doubt about it :)

I must agree, I hate games where both teams use high defence, it's pinball, not football...not much of a playmaking, I remember 2 decent actions of Belgie[one in '41, second somewhere around '70...when Bourdon ran into gk] where there were 3-4 one touch passes. Rest of the game was just kicking foward over defs and hoping the striker will have enough luck no to get fouled/won't get tackled by the defender from behind.
