Fondamentally i learned that in sokker each tactic, each way to play can be good (except extreme strange way to play like "catenaccio" or "all in the box"), but much more important is create a way to play that would valorize players quality, and would allow them to do their best (according with their skills)
the situation is different when we talk about clubs and NT.
In clubs we decided to improve players and buy them according with 1-2 tactical ideas, due to the balance&training limits, so we could choose between 2 at most 3 different way to play and grow up players that fit with these way to play
In NT (mainly in great NT with many good players) the players-choice is bigger, so a coach is able to change way to play according to different situation (opponent strenght, opponent way to play, players global form etc.etc.) so driving an NT a coach should consider much more variables, study them and then pick the right players with the right tactic.
But coming back to your question (sorry for the long introduction) :)
....I think that with the right players both 4-5-1 (or better 4-2-3-1 with 2 def mid, 2 wingers and 1off mid) than 5-4-1 (with 3 central defender, 2 off. fullback, 2 mid, 2 wigers or off.mids) could be good solution in a match
obviously i would prefer to use it against stronger teams than mine, to be covered, to do pressing in the midfield, and avoid the opponent to have goal-chances, but surely the offensive power of my team would be low, except in case i could play with a great forward (with hig tec-pace) and really fast and technique wingers as well as good central mids, that should be able to give the right support to the lonely forward.
Surely I could use these two ways of play with a NT, of course against teams like Poland,Italy or Netherland that have a great offensive potential and of course I won't do an quite offensive 4-3-3 or 3-4-3 with offside-trap...it will be a suicide :)

of course but I have 3 season experience with italian NT and a second place in WC... it isn't so bad...
with Nt the things change so much than with the club...trust me...it's much more difficult :)

btw i think it's right that your NT will be driven by a good danish coach...
i'm just trying to conquer your trust, but there will be no problem if i can become coach
surely I can ensure everyone that I would give all my energies to Dk-Nt even more that Italian one...cause I would never leave you unhappy of your decision :)

Thanks for the very nice reply.
You say, you'd use a "1-striker-formation" against stronger opponents - and thereby saying, that you wouldn't use it against an equally skilled(or weaker) opponent. I thought this would be the case - most managers tend to think that way. But have you ever tried playing "1-striker-formations" against an equal or weaker opponent, to see how it works? (if yes, please give me an matchlink, and i'll check it out).
The offensive power of a strong defence combined with a lonely(fast and technical) striker is, in my humble oppinion, greatly underestimated by most, in Sokker. With only 1 striker, I find that the amount of chances is equal to the amount of chances compared to 2 or 3 strikers(the midfielders or defenders will pass directly to this lonely striker, if they have just a little PM/passing), but with only 1 striker, you don't have to think about playmaking and passing(he wont have anyone in front of him, and therefore he will never try to pass the ball) for that particular striker. You can use a very 'simple' striker(*) - and get great results.
Think about it, or try it!
* By 'simple', I mean: Fine pace, technique and great striker-ability.

it depends on how you organize the work and mainly in the goal you give yourself for the NT
when we started with Italy-NT, me-Newto and ilmangu had a goal
become Human WC champions (Polska with the best players as they played in WC final is on another world)...and the work done was very impressive in terms of hours spent, relationships with users with NT-players in their team, studying opponents' players ....and so on...
If you want to do very well, you have to work (enjoying...obviously) much more than preparing matches for your own team.
If your team loses or plays bad...no one will criticize you
If NT loses or plays bad...you have 100-200 users that would criticize your work...so this is the surplus motivation

my goal is to wind every singel game i play ,but i still the same like your oven team you just had more and better players
1) with my club and with italian NT we rarely played matches against very strong teams (except the first match against Polska and of course the final)
Just in this two case I (we together with the other two) decided to play with 1 striker (but we was still playing with the old engine...another kind of play)...with the new engine i still haven't tried this kind of formation but I often thought about a 4-2-3-1 with 3 forwards playing MID (with good PLAY-PASS) behind the lonely striker (I can't do it in my team cause i have not the right players)
2)Yes you got reason, but trust in me...against strong opponents' defenceline one "simple" striker won't take any ball :)
Against equal or weaker opponents i prefer to do ball possession and stay almost always in opponents' midfield area, but this could be done the same with 4DEF 5MID and 1ATT, there's no matters

of course everyone goal is to win, even if (watching danish team and some matches) i don't think DK-NT is too weaker than Italy-Ned or England....Danmark has great players, with the right effort and a bit of luck could surely earn next WC-Semifinals...I'm sure of it
Nej det var mere specifik landsholdserfaring jeg mente :-)
