WEEK 2 (2007-10-27)
New NT season
Senior World Cup – Qualifications

The rules which will exactly say how many teams will qualify from each group to the 1/8 finals will be done when I will know how many teams want to participate in this tournament. (so after the results of new elections, because new coaches should make this decisions).
There will be four-teams-groups (some could be three-teams if we can't make all with 4 teams). So the qualifying could be for example:
- best two teams from each group and 3 best teams from 3rd positions or
- best team from each group and 7 best teams from 2nd positions.
All depend on that how many groups we will have

I must tell you that there will be no problem when you will want to play in both Mini World Cup and U-21 World Cup. I talked about this with Hellsangel (U-21WC organizer) and 4 best teams will qualify to the u-21 World Cup without playing in u-21 WC Qualifications.

if you have any questions please ask them in this topic on forum sokker international

A Review and Preview of Things To Come

Österreich
Having started out as one of the pre-tournament favourites, they've now established themselves as the team to beat. They have ripped through a group which was never likely to challenge them as expected and now face a similiar team in Malaysia. Only severe bad luck will stop them from going into the Quarter-Finals but things could get much tougher from that point onwards and the sharp step up in class could catch them out.

Malaysia
Theyre one of the better new nations with a good coach but you have to wonder whether Malaysia would have got through their group without the luck they had against South Africa. Karma tends to even things out though and they find themselves paired up against Österreich in a match they can only win by an act of God or Ref.

Uruguay
Beware the dark horses, they may be lowly ranked but their strikers are lethal. Tactically there are question marks over them but if they can sort that, theyre capable of shocking anyone. Macedonia may look at the draw as a blessing but it may also be a curse.

Makedonija
It's difficult to judge a team when they've not been properly tested. Macedonia seem like one of the more solid lower teams but their defence is about to get a severe test. In reality they dont have the players to compete with Uruguay but nothing is impossible.

Sverige
As much is known about Sweden as was pre-tournament. They've waltzed through their group as expected. They are tactically very solid and have talented forwards. Just recently their defence has not looked as strong though and considering the teams theyve played, that is a concern. They should get past Iceland but unless they can firm up at the back, the following teams like Ireland, Uruguay and Austria will be rubbing their hands at taking on their defence.

Ísland
Not much is known about them, apart from they're not the same team as last season.
If Looser can obtain the same level or organisation and toughness that Vilpu had last season, then they may be able to grind their way past Sweden but a 4-0 defeat against Hungary suggests theyre not ready yet.

Magyarország
Hungary went into this tournament as favourites and deservedly so but they seem to have dropped off the pace slightly while their new manager gets comfortable. Their choice not to play a game today when they could have experimented or gained experience looks like a mistake to me. They got through their group easily enough but didnt sparkle. Israel will be a bigger test but Hungary have the players to deal with them. What comes after will show whether their coach has truly settled into his role.

Israel
Israel have been very hit and miss during qualification. They started with a solid win against Dominica, were outplayed by Greece and then stole a point from the Irish. They will have a hard time getting any further in this competition though.

Srbija
Serbia came out on top in a group including Bosnia, Nigeria and Paraguay and are one of the dark horses for this competition. They have forwards that can cause anyone problems but their problems lay at the other end of the pitch where they lack quality. Their game against Greece will not be easy but they have a slight advantage.

Hellas
Probably the most improved team in this tournament. They're tough to break down and on their day can cause anyone problems. I'm backing them to get past Serbia but that will be as far as they go.

Ireland
Ireland entered this tournament as one of the favourites but have shown little of the form that made them so. A very good win over Greece was followed by a poor performance against Dominica and a questionable draw against Israel. They should still get past Nigeria but an upset looks more likely now than it did 3 weeks ago. They'll need to improve and start taking their chances in they want to advance past the Quarter-Finals.

Nigeria
After a poor start, they've improved in the last 2 games, upsetting Bosnia and knocking them out in a game where they looked very solid and organised. With luck theyre capable of beating Ireland.

Venezuela
Venezuela came 2nd in a group including Sweden, Japan and Indonesia but the way they were dispatched by Sweden suggests they cant live with the bigger teams yet. They are capable of scoring goals but South Africa are unlikely to give them the chance.

South Africa
Losing against Malaysia may prove to be a blessing in disguise for South Africa as they've avoided the unpredictable Turkey.
They look strong after comfortably beating Slovenija and could be a severe test for anyone with eyes on the trophy but tactically they look a little suspect.

Slovenija
Slovenija won their group but dont look like a team capable of winning the tournament. They were outplayed by South Africa despite being tactically pretty good and Turkey will provide a test for them, theyre not incapable of winning though.

Turkey
The most unpredictable team in the competition. Theyre quite capable of winning the Mini World Cup or going out at the first stage. They dominated their group but still managed to lose a game and come 2nd, this means theyre have a much harder route to the final and some consistency will be needed tp progress. If Turkey perform against Slovenja they'll go through.
