Don't expect some luxury, but to spent some nights are more than enough... I've been in those hostels many times during some regatas and they are just fine... Those with 4-8 beds have beds like one on top on the other, (like in camping), like 2-4 double-deck beds :)

Zagreb-Rijeka 15-20 €, Zagreb-Zadar 30-35 € it depend of a bus company and what time of the day you are going!
they sure make extra profit when you're traveling :)
BUS:
Zagreb-Rijeka is about 15€ (3 hours travelling)
Zagreb-Zadar costs 15-20€ (4 hours travelling)
Zagreb-Dubrovnik is about 25€ (10 hours travelling)
don't know about Zadar-Dubrovnik, but probably around 20€
TRAIN (visit Croatian Railways):
Zagreb-Rijeka is about 15€ (2nd class, 1st class is 10€ more)
Zagreb-Split is about 20€ (2nd class, 1st class is 10€ more)
those are standard prices, you can get some reduction if you're student
