DEV Diary 60: DEVELOPMENT REFORM - it's happening now!
Let me start by sharing a few personal sentences with you. There are news items which you write because you have to, and there are others, like this one, which you just enjoy editing. The announcement of which is the culmination of months of hard work, and the announced effect is the beginning of something long-awaited, and the changes introduced are not just technical maintenance of the game, but its important development. ~Raul
Therefore, with great satisfaction, on behalf of the entire Sokker team, I announce that the start of the new season will be preceded by a long-announced reform of the game structure!
THE MOST IMPORTANT CHANGES:
- Extension of the composition of each league - from the current 8 to 12 teams.
- Change to the competition calendar. The season will be shortened to 13 weeks with matches played on Wednesdays and Sundays and cup/team matches on Fridays. Each team will therefore play 22 league games per season instead of the current 14.
- Change of promotion rules. Most importantly, from next season on, the league winner will always be promoted directly. The runners-up will have to compete for promotion in the play-offs. Places from 3rd to 6th will be safe, teams from 10th to 12th will be relegated and those from 7th to 9th will have to defend their league existence in the play-offs. It is hoped that this will have an impact on the fierceness and attractiveness of the competition and that each team will be committed to fighting for their goal throughout the season.
NECESSARY ADJUSTMENTS:
- The new system assumes that each lower league level has 3 times as many teams as the preceding higher one, thus: 1 x I league, 3 x II league, 9 x III league, 27 x IV etc. This change allows a new way of promotion and relegation but also makes each level more elite and prestigious.
- The effect of the changes will be a change in the total number of teams in each league level. While tier I and tier II will increase in number, tier III will see a reduction in the number of teams. This is shown in the table
- The above changes require a new assignment to the leagues. As of the new season, the old leagues will be reset to zero and ALL teams will be assigned to the new leagues on the basis of this season's results, creating completely new teams in each league. The assignment rules are described in detail below.
RULES FOR ASSIGNMENT TO NEW LEAGUES:
1) We will play out the bargaining, promotion and relegation as usual at the end of the season.
2. we note the scores (points, goals) with which the team was relegated / promoted
3. we sort the teams according to the summary tables of the given competition level, assuming that:
- First we sort the teams that were relegated from a higher level of play (direct relegation from higher leagues and losers of bargains from higher leagues)
- Then we sort the teams that stayed in the given layer (relegation losers, league winners and safe places 2-4)
- Finally, we sort out the teams that were promoted to the given layer (direct promotion from lower leagues and promotion from lower leagues after promotion)
4. the tables created in this way will form the basis for the allocation to the new leagues.
NECESSARY BUT UNPOPULAR EFFECTS
- as easily described above, the number of medium and lower divisions will decrease
- the effect of the change in numbers will be cases in which:
(a) teams which under the old system would have been promoted to a higher level will remain at the current level.
b) teams which would have stayed at the same level under the old system will be relegated to a lower league.
- We cannot cheat mathematics, this is a necessary, one-time adjustment.
- We hope that the increased possibility of promotion from next season and the greater attractiveness of the competition will compensate the owners of these teams.
- despite many hours spent looking for solutions, wanting to make the changes no other solution could be found, this is a necessary but unpopular effect of the changes.
THE EFFECT OF THE CHANGES ON TRAINING:
- the planned and eagerly awaited training reform will not come into effect until next season, so this season will be a transitional period. New competition rules but still old training rules.
- As a consequence, with 3 official matches every week it will be possible to train more players: e.g. 3 players with GK, 9 ATT, 15 MID or ATT and as many as 33 speed trainers.
- This is also a small gift to you for your patience - enjoy the season, next season there will be new rules.
- The shortened season will reduce the number of trainings from 16 to 13. Keep this in mind when planning the careers of your pupils.
In conclusion, I hope that the competition next season will be as fierce as the discussion below this post! I wish you all the best of luck! ~Raul

WTF?????
WTF?????
