I've been thinking. It might be beneficial to start scanning Division 2 for potential U-21 players. The number of new teams who come in each season would offer a big boost to our youth numbers and you wouldnt have to wait too long for them to be released if the managers left.

Our best U-21 prospect just picked up a 4 week injury. F**k it

Just had a look at the U21's from all the first divisions and the premier division. Not an inspiring search. Looks like the major problem is the lack of Mid's at the moment. Plenty of strikers pushing towards the 50's and some defenders on or above 40. There's very few mids though rating over or even close to 40. Pretty much all the good mids are coming from the Top 3 and Athletico.
Hopefully there are some gems playing outside Ireland.

@cambrant and jirka : thanks for the support :)

Our better mids are in foreign clubs. As is always the case it's more difficult at the start of the season. I'll have a look at the database later on. The defence is a bigger problem.

Yeah its not looking too good :/ As it stands I think I have the best U21 DEF playing in Ireland and he's only Outstanding.

Hopefully there are a few Defs in foreign clubs too.

When i looked a few weeks ago i could just about put a squad of 16 players together.

If even...

Have we any striker who stands out as a definate starter?

And has Danny Dealhunty's pace increased at all, it's great having a magical keeper but I'd be hard to put him in a team if he's got almost no pace.

I've not asked for an update on him in a while. I'd have the same problem picking him, he's a great shot-stopper but our defence is going to be outpaced and we need a keeper with at least reasonable pace to pick up the throughballs.

Thats the concern :/

Any idea about the striker(s)?
2009-01-09 23:53:30
We're pretty much sorted for strikers.

as you said 50 rating strikers.. and U21 defenders wont be too high a standard to get past i would thing...

midfield is going to be a big issue, is the keeper the first division guy? celtic knights guy? or what?

as for defence, there are a few out there who have potential, but i dont see there being 4 U21 stars. you'll probably end up playing some 18 or 19 year old juniors there :P

very good form, tragic tactical discipline
