I think getting into the top 8 is going to become increasingly difficult in a couple of seasons time. At the moment you can look at the Premier league and say the top 4 have the players and the tactics. By that i mean not only do they have the best players but they're tactically good enough to win consistently against those below them. Looking at the bottom 4, I find they've either got the players or the tactics but not both and soon enough i think they are going to be replaced by other clubs that do have both.
Evilbunny and Sultans of Ping are the main two who will be coming up and likely staying up. The Angry Beavers are another if their players keep improving.
Once the top league is full of teams who have both sides to their game, it's going to take a lot to dislodge them.

in Czech Republic with almost 2000 players, there are say 12-15 that have been coming in a out of Premiersip...and still within this, top 5 teams are there since i started 3 years ago.
needless to say im going to break this hegemony next season, promote to the premiership and stay ;)

lolz... seems to be like that... once you hak how the game works.. you find a rhythm which works and stay around the same.. then maybe invest if you can in a once off season to achieve the top spot :P
as i said though... im finally getting my finances together... dont know if im wasting it on 30 year olds.. but feel it might be worth it if i can get another draw against lucan or whatever :)

Taking the long road with players and investing in younger players rather than buying old players is the way to improve faster than others. Spending money on 30 year olds might give you a quick win but it's money down the drain really. How good a team is is usually worked out better by looking at the squads average age as well as total value. Of course stadium size is important as well and it looks like you're on the right track there.
I'd even go a step further and would say that it is necessary that a manager is/was active!
It gives you some great advantages like spending more time on creating tactics or buying cheap players on the transfer market. Moreover you get always the newest information about "successful tactics" ...
In Switzerland the team with the best players plays only in the second division because the manager doesn't have much time and plays usually with the same tactics.
@kenyard: Without knowing how strong your league and how strong Irelands leagues in general are I'm sure you'll be able to compete with the best teams in a few seasons ;-)
Keeping the advantage is much more difficult than chasing the best, in Switzerland we only have one team which is at the top for a long period (9 of the last 11 season in the top 3, never in a relegation match) ;-)
It's just a matter of time and it needs much patience, but I'm sure that the managers who started later are able catch the topmanagers! ;-)

So in theory, the average ranking of your league should be slightly higher than our premier league.

thats my theory... im also convinced that the individual ranking has something to do with it also..
i need 8 teams in a league to participate though probably before anything could be guessed... at the moment it seems to be related to ranking mainly.. as for other things im not sure because data from our league can vary from week to week as every team in the league is losing/gaining points
"league prestiege" seems to be based on average ranking of the members of the league however...
EDIT:
also, if you remember the fanclub mood graphs which were out of 10 even though there is only 7 levels,
i used lose ~ 1/40th of what my max income should be, per level that i lost there.. that means you can lose 1/4 of max income if your fanclub mood is on lowest.
EDIT again: now that i look at this provides the link
there is no difference between 9/10 and 10/10 mood.. and both were "madly in love" typical example is welchy's one where he had 9/10 but ranking points still went up, his income also went up.
my last 2 were same mood, different ranking points, increase of fanclub, BUT also 3 teams in league won friendlies (one was a 12-0, 5-0), 2 losses (both small losses 2-0 and 4-2) and 1 draw (overall increases league prestiege) :)
also, i tried to correlate them, it doesnt work, im guessing due to different base league prestiege values each week.. or it could be a complicated graph value, but i doubt it as it seems to be a pretty linear function which means it shouldnt be too bad
