What makes a good midfielder for exmaple?
2006-02-22 14:33:17
You tell me :)

Pace and stamina are important.

Some say passing and playmaking are essential. Techniqe is handy to have.

That's all i know.

You Irish?
2006-02-22 14:36:31
A bit of everything besides GK :).
2006-02-22 14:37:10
is anything better for defensive or offensive?
2006-02-22 14:38:51
Nope

So, a good midfielder is a player with all the skills :P

I'll go through (IMO), what I think, in order of importance for midfielders is.

Defensive:
1. Passing + PM
2. Defending
3. Pace
4. Tech

Offensive:
1. Passing + PM
2. Pace
3. Tech
4. Scoring
5. Def

Wingers:
1. Pace
2. Tech
3. PM + Passing
4. Defending
5. Scoring

I've not counted stamina, as it is something that all players should have.

Just found out the hard way that technique is very important for defenders.

Had a guy score an own goal due to bad technique.

Would have been bad playmaking or passing caused the o.g.

But if a defender lacks technique makes it easier for striker to take the ball off him. Depending on the strikers defender ability. This is even more likely if the defender lacks playmaking, makes him hesitate a bit!

You don't want any of your outfield players to be below poor in passing, playmaking or stamina.

In my opinion. If the player is below poor in stamina he won't last 90mins. He can be used successfully for part of the game though.

36 minute.
Thompson tries to trap the ball. The keeper drops the ball. McEvoy tries to trap the ball.
GOOOAAAAAAL!!!

Both guys are my players.

Neither could "trap" the ball.

Either they need to brush up on their ball trapping or they need better technique

Trapping the ball is playmaking from what I've seen. Technique is actually more for tackling and dribbling seemingly...

It's tech not PM.

PM is decision making, technique is ball control.
