Great result :) - Just back from hols so I'll watch it tomorrow. Like you said though it gives us hope for the rest of qualification.

good match, i noticed you started playing Hegarty. Hope he serves you as well as he has served Boca for all these seasons.

as for Austria, your positioning worked out real good, i wasnt convinced with the position of the offensive MIDs, i think they would have used their potential better if placed a bit deeper.
Also there was a great uncovered space in the middle which left the austrian mids a lot of time to pass.

Throwins were quite good, it was an enjoyable game to watch!

On a general lever, i see some familier faces from the oh-so-many-seasons-ago, so I understand Ireland is still waiting for their Tarn or Bravo on the ATT position. It is nice to see the midfield has a lot to offer and im proud Boca can contribute to this squad.

GL Baslx, I am confident you can take Ireland to the WC finals.

I've been looking at our lack of striking options as well. Aaron Holt could be trained to a 3 X Divine striker instead of a winger/mid. What do people think? I could just as easily train strikers out of my current crop of trainees so it wouldn't be a huge change around for me...

the problem is, that you have so many Irish NT-players and they would all need some training...

Well, Curley will be almost 3x unearthly or better soon and there are 2 or 3 young ones who could become great stars.
But as with the most Irish players, the most important thing is, that you train them till AT VERY LEAST 25 or even longer :-/

That's why you have many not-that-bad-players but (almost) no topstars.

Just my opinion

@jirka: nice to see you in the forum!
BUt if I have a look at the world ranking, I must admit that almost all the teams in front of us have 2-3 topstars and we simply miss them. In difficult matches you could make the tactic fitting to them, but if you don't have them...

anyway, I don't want to complain, I'll do my best out of these Irish Fighters!

Your point about top players is very true- the problem until now has been that we didn't have enough not that bad players to have the space to keep the older NT players training especially as the up and coming trainees had more potential in the long term. I think in the next few seasons we'll start to see some proper superstars in the NT, the work Nin, Welchy and Kenyard have done in developing the NT and the U21's has organized us much more than in the past.

Along those lines we need to find a proper long term trainer for Delahunty- I picked him up to stop him stagnating elsewhere but I can't fit his training into the jigsaw of my training forever :) I'll advertise him soon but the problem is with a player like that is that a lot of managers would buy him as a complete player rather than a trainee.
2009-09-22 07:01:17
I am not so sure about Delahunty - there are many pace trainer who train pace for 2+ seasons.
And for them, he would be perfect...
2009-09-22 07:53:54
send me the Delahunty to SKmail.
I have 2 more tech traininings and then passing for one season and after that at least one season of pace, possibly more.
2009-09-23 09:25:36
id like dealahunty to get to divine keeper first i think..after that he can be trained in other skills i think :)

in terms of striker training..we're lacking a decent trainer other than karloss...

if you stop training mids though, i think we will suffer there... last season and this season, the only decent central mid has been colin clohessy...
think im changing to mid training soon, although i have a lack of irish trainees anyways, so i dont know how well that will go for the NT/U21's :)

one of the main problems we have in the first division is lack of money i think... 100k a week less than the top 8 teams.. if all of them were using it for training irish players and youths, i think it would be great longterm.. although welchy, saarumarc moving up the division is good in that respect i guess, and in the next 2 seasons im hoping we will see results...
its crazy that we dont have even 1 unearthly youth coach in the country like! with how much i want one, id say it will be me getting one first! and that wont be for a few seasons i think!

how long do you guys reckon the current crop of players are looking ok in defence/mids/strikers

i just sold a 18 year old keeper with seriously good talent (3 wqeeks to formid pace) so thats keepers in future sorted if he gets the training..and dealahunty should hit superdivine keeper sometime if he got training i think...
2009-09-23 10:36:52
imho the main problem for the a-team are the defenders.

We have no 17/15 with 3x solid b-skills.
And you can train a not even very talented 18 year old guy to this skills at the age of 24-25...

We really don't have any good defenders, that's quite a pity: many outkicks -> dangerous throw-ins. And many lost tackles, missed balls, many tacklings from the strikers/wingers at our defenders etc.

the midfield is not that bad.

And as I said before:
take a young Irish talent (age 17-18) and train him wherever you want, but TRAIN him till the age of 25+.
He will then be a a-team player for sure. Any "small" club can do this if he just wants to...
especially defenders are quite easy to train....
2-3 seasons def, 1-2 seasons pace
2009-09-23 15:08:04
i am thinkin about switchin to defenders but have to find out if its worth it first..
2009-09-23 17:20:42
I've trained defenders for 2-3 seasons now and it is worth it.
But you have to train 17-19 years old players.

Watch for example him:
Patryk Niedorobek , age 20
value: 1 131 200 CHF
wage: 11 680 CHF
unearthly form
bookings:
average stamina tragic keeper
excellent pace unearthly defender
very good technique poor playmaker
formidable passing adequate striker

I payed 937 500 $ for him, talent unknown...

skills = solid defender, pace and passing, technique good, tragic playmaker

And even with not that good talent, he'd easy fit 17/15 and 3*solid+ with the age of 24+...

But it's not worth buying 20-23 year old players with high pace and low defender and only train them in defender. I haven't made much profit like that.
2009-09-23 18:24:30
Yeah and they only really neeed 2 skills, tech, pass or playmakin dont have to be so high...Hmm
2009-09-23 18:26:31
and the most important thing: do it a long time. So you can still train them in the b-skills at 23+ to become topdefenders.
2009-09-23 18:27:54
i know i know thanks:)
2009-09-23 18:59:51
I know that you know, but up to now it didn't really work...

if you see for example Scotland: they have just a few users, but they have great players.
2009-09-24 11:27:57
yeah well their userbase is way higher than ours... in terms of our competition against them i realised that... they have a lot of first division teams who can match our premier i think...

but defenders are being covered by me, welchy and saarumarc at the moment.. and welchy has 3x future defenders at the moment anywaysy
