Question gents...

I was wondering how long do each of you guys give a youth player before you sack him!!?? For example if you have just increased the size of your youth school by 4 places & on Saturday you get 4 new players... How long will you give them in the school before you decide they arent good enough!!?? I realise there is no hard & fast rule here as it depends on age, weeks to promotion etc, but if we take the example of a 17 year old with 15 weeks to promotion what is the lowest level you will except in the school & how many weeks do you wait for him to prove himself!!??

I didn't realise this was going to be that long a question!!

depends on outcoming level.
you have sokker viewer and organiser?
ill edit this with an answer in a minute

I have organiser for about 4 weeks... not really too sure what I'm doing with it though!! Basically I'm trying to judge when you think a guy isnt up to it!! At the moment I THINK the way to go is if they are 16 promote them as long as they are at least Average for 17 & 18 year old I go with Solid & 19 & 20 year old I go with Formidable when I'm promoting them.... should I be looking for higher???

Also should I if a you arrived in the school at unsatisfactory is there any point seeing if he'll improve in the next 3/4 weeks???

as a case study ill look at my own youths there now i think breaking it into 5 youths at a time

Darragh Gilchrist 18 solid (8) outfield 1 18
John Adams 17 excellent (10) outfield 2 17
Adrian Carlylse 18 very good (9) outfield 3 18
William Mooney 19 outstanding (12) outfield 3 19
Paddy Murphy 17 unsatisfactory (2) outfield 4 17

ok so that unsatisfactory will be fired. doing it there now. wont amount to anything. outstanding 19 ok thats fine. everything here is kinda what i decided on a long time ago, and was ok with having.

Jim MacKelloch 17 good (7) outfield 6 17
George Keddy 17 solid (8) outfield 6 17
Eoin Parkes 17 formidable (11) outfield 6 17
Adam Gilchrist 18 adequate (6) outfield 10 (+1) 19
Roy McIntyre 18 adequate (6) outfield 10 (+1) 19

so this is where you kinda have most youths a few weeks. in general i find i get them in around 20 weeks that i keep most. as you can see i hvae them all below age 20, even the guys going 19 i would consider firing at the moment if they dont pop this week. the 17 year olds are grand. usually good or solid is high enough for them to potentially be worth it. lots of these i hvae maybe 10 weeks already. so i chekc talents when i get time. adam gilchrist, 10 weeks, comes out around very good maybe.. but talent is kinda flat line over 12 weeks. i wasted 12k on him, and i sack him after writing this. mcintyre is exact same youth. but only joined this week so i will let him come out i reckon.. or try a few weeks anyway. i could sack him if i was picky as he will be 19 and not a high level. but im not strapped for cash

Michael Monaghan 18 solid (8) outfield 12 (+1) 19
Derek Carton 17 good (7) outfield 13 (+1) 18
Jamie Dodrill 16 good (7) outfield 15 (+1) 17
Shane Lally 17 very good (9) outfield 15 (+1) 18
Cormac Risk 18 weak (4) outfield 17 (+1) 19

similar to above. looking at what they will come out at. i kinda want them to be a decent level and they are fine. all young enough. 18 year old who will be 19, but he will be probably excellent or formiddable so thats ok the 18 weak, can probably be sacked. 17 weeks = 4 pops. so could potentially be a solid. which isnt bad. i guess thats why hes still in my school. also estimations can be out by 2 levels. ill see his youth matches score maybe and make a decision. i can wait till the training on thursday to see what way he goes before making a decision. new guys come in saturday so no rush on a decision at the moment.
then i check talents. monaghan is talent 8. so not really a need to keep him. 2 pops in like 16 weeks. not the best :P that means i can expect him as very good or excellent at best, but crappy talent. thing is he may be worth selling when he comes out. so i dunno should i keep him. i guess this pop this week decides it.
shane lally looks the best there, but his talent is crap at the moment, still hes a high level so i keep him to sell on. he will never be "trainable" but maybe make me money when i sell him.

Aaron Tooze 16 average (5) outfield 17 (+1) 17
Jon Chaudet 17 weak (4) outfield 19 (+1) 18
Darren Dull 18 adequate (6) outfield 19 (+1) 19
Noel Phelan 17 average (5) outfield 21 (+1) 18
Phil Eastham 16 good (7) outfield 22 (+1) 17

this is the area where you are just letting them in 5-10 weeks waiting to see what happens. in general i hvae them young unless they come in at a high level. i estimate talent 4. so with 18 weeks thats 4-5 skill pops. all of them are coming out around excellent. the weak is only 17, gonna be 18, but a long way into next season. hes questionable. same as the 18 year old. infact most of these are questionable. both 16 year olds have great potential. coming out at 17. above good/solid is grand
talents. chaudet is flat line, wont ever increase. gonna sack him now. been in around 6 weeks and nothing, so byebye.

Chris Bonnar 18 adequate (6) outfield 25 (+2) 20
Colin Bowman 17 good (7) outfield 27 (+2) 19
Scott Murray 16 adequate (6) outfield 28 (+2) 18
Darragh Gallagher 16 adequate (6) outfield 30 (+2) 18
Robert MacGilvernock 18 adequate (6) outfield 31 (+2) 20
Shane Noonan 16 good (7) outfield 33 (+2) 18

will do 6 here. similar to previous. that adequate coming out at 20 can go probably. but he has 31 weeks. talent 4, thats +8 skills. so potential brilliant. thats why i keep him. if you want a 20 year old you do kinda want them coming out around oustanding. most of them longterms are around the same thing. wait and see what talent is. this you need sokker viewer for. after around 10-15 weeks you hvae a clear idea of talent. even 6-8 weeks if they play a few matches for you.
even looking at these. chris bonnar has never increased, and is gonna be 20, so i reckon i sack him if he doesnt increase thursday.

----------------------------------------------
ok i have a lot of youths here. i get maybe 4-5 worthwhile a season at the moment. its costly. but worth it i find. the lack of knowing talent means that a lot of the longer time guys will be sacked when they reach week 10-20
also from the above i reckon i picked out 10 guys i can sack. i do a cleanout every 2 months or so, just a quick glance through my osokker. can see an idea who needs to go. i could be sacking a gem, sure, but in general i just have a guide. if they come out.
16-adequate.
17, good,
18, solid/very good,
19, excellent,
20, formid/outstanding

problem is talents. i assume talent 4. an go from that. wait a few weeks and if not popping somewhat theyre fired
2011-12-13 22:58:33
so you have the basic idea there it seems anyway - in your targets. as i said. 4 is the key number. see if they can reach your targets in the amount of weeks. start of season and end of season you can lower or higher your level. i.e start of season they can be lower level. end of season higher.
my method when they start is weak or higher. of course an 18 year old weak, with 2 -10 weeks left i wil sack also. needs to be longer there.
it took me a good 2 seasons to get where i am in youths. a lot of the higher skilled guys i have cud be there 20 weeks already
as for organiser. it takes a while for data to accumulate. update once a week minimum. thursdays are best i guess. i do 2 updates. monday and thursday. it tells you who hasnt played if you want also for wednesday from the monday update, so its handy to see who needs training still or whatever. theres also a form update then.

Crystal clear sir thank you!!

I was thinking along the same line but I was worried that I was giving them too much time & wasting 6 or 7 weeks on a guy who I was probably likely to sack! I have an Incredible youth coach so I suppose the most important think for me to do is improve that in order to get better youths but I will have to wait until next season before I can afford a better coach!

kenyard, I think you should flesh out your answers a bit more, maybe go into me
more detail...:p

Seriously, a very good post.

its still all completely speculative. i have a solid or very good who is hitting 41 ratings as a defender. and then higher guys and they are 25s in all positions. probably stamina...
its a killer trying to get an idea of what the player will be first off, and second getting the talents etc..
im sure i have fired a few gems, but this is the way the game has gone

Shane Noonan 16 good (7) outfield 33 (+2) 18
r u kidding me, sir ?? i really hope he has decent talent !! that is the kind of youth, i dream of ...beside world domination.

very good post btw.
2011-12-14 13:51:16
i had a 16 yr old join as solid there the other day :P
so i know he cud be an average/adequate, but yeah. major potential alright.

most of the guys there cant be seen on paper. its checking talent and seeing what they popped like to see what to do with em
but yeah theres a few guys with major potential in there
