Subject: Help with training

2006-11-12 19:16:53
Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask for help; I'm a noob to this game.

here is my coach:

Jamie Farragher, age: 40,
wage: 12 000 €
club: Ulster Emmigrants, country: Ireland
formidable coach

Training effectiveness:
very good of stamina, outstanding of keeper
outstanding of pace, excellent of defender
incredible of technique, excellent of playmaker
solid of passing, excellent of striker

I had been training technique but then someone mentioned that maybe I shouldn't. Im training to stamina temporarily as apparently that is quick to train.

Any advice on what I should train? Is it stupid to train technique? How much difference does age make?

Cheers all

It depends on your formation. You'd want to train as many players possible so if you're playing 5 in midfield you'd pick playmaking, 5 at the back defending etc. I'd pick your best young player and train him in stamina and a main skill.

I agree.
Train a main skill and stamina first and then inprove your technique and pace later on when you've a better feel for the game.

You'll have "random " pops in skills depending on your assistant coaches abilities

Your coach isn't the greatest for what you're paying for him really. The speed of training is dependant on the main coaches individual skill in that area. Ideally you want to have unearthly in whatever skill you do train so, for example, you'll get rubbish stamina training from him in stamina as he's only very good in it. If I were you I'd go look for a similarly priced coach with 3 skills you want to train in the next season at a minimum of brilliant. Stamina guys are hard to find (or recruit) so it might be an idea to pick up an assistant coach with unearthly stamina to stick in if you want to train that for a few weeks.

Every skill is worth training, it's up to you to decide what kind of players you want. The big difference from hattrick is that all rounders make better players than one skill monsters so swap around your training fairly often. Have a look in the Useful stuff topic in the Sokker Ireland forum as well, it has some useful stuff in there ;)

If you have any oyther questions ask away and welcome to Sokker :)

Cheers. My problem is that I have very little time online at the minute as I have no net in the house, so dont have time to trawl through rules etc. This has all been helpful though.

the reason I bought the coach I did is cos I had some initial advice that technique was fairly important, and after watching my very good forward with hopeless technique have the ball bounce off him repeatedly like he was a pinball buffer, I thought the same.

Could you explain to me why I shouldn't just train technique?

If you have a striker like that and he is no older than 21, go ahead and train him in technique.

Buy a trainer with unearthy technique skill and low levels in other areas, especially goalkeeping. That way you will be able to cover the wage and your training will yeild best results. With current coach, the effectiveness will be 50-70% of the option i suggest here.

Surely he'd be better training stamina first and making sure the rest of his team aren't useless. Than training up something else. It's not likt the striker wont need stamina anyway.

Yes, stamina goes always first, you are right there. I think minimum is 6 if you want to play someone for 90 mins.
2006-11-20 02:01:03
6 being average?
2006-11-20 08:01:25
6 is adequate:

Skills order

0. tragic
1. hopeless
2. unsatisfactory
3. poor
4. weak
5. average
6. adequate
7. good
8. solid
9. very good
10. excellent
11. formidable
12. outstanding
13. incredible
14. brilliant
15. magical
16. unearthly
17. divine
2006-11-20 15:00:01
Ok, i always counted tragic being 1
2006-11-20 15:22:18
1 is hopeless tragedy :)

there is not a best training, every training is important.

if you want to train technique, you must consider these things:
1) you've set no more than 1 GK, 5 DEF, 5 MID and 3 ATT in the game, you'll get training;
2) (from FAQ): in general you can only train 6 ATT players a week - 3 from each game -, so you'd be better off training technique as MID or DEF as you can train 10. So, if you are a striker trainer, you can set your 6 striker trainees as MID, and another 4 midfielders as MID and then train technique-MID and get full value. What's the snag? Well setting players as GK,DEF,MID and ATT changes how they play! So a striker set to MID will pass rather than shoot......;
3) your coach Jamie Farragher is perfect like a "Coach of the junior team", while (in the firsts season) the "Head Coach" must be unearthly in only one skills (tecnique in your case) and wage: max 8.000 €

all clear?

Excellent, that's great. I will check out how my squad's stamina is at the minute and then either do a brief boost in stamina, or go straight for technique.

Thanks for clarifying all that - much appreciated

One thing though - you were saying that Jamie Faragher would be a great assistant coach. His wage is 12k per week though - is not not a bit much to be paying for an assistant? I think I may just sack him and replace him, unless I hear otherwise in the next few days

Edit - unearthly was in red; the best I could get was magical, so ive gone for that

Stamina only takes about a week per level as well as opposed to 3-6 for technique so a few weeks of stamina will be all you really need. Remember though that stamina only trains as far as formidable so don't train people too much in it now. When you start getting new trainees or signings that need stamina as well it's a waste of training if the rest of your team is maxed out already.

In the long run it's worth spending a lot on coaches but I think you're right about Faragher- that's 12k a week you could be spending elsewhere. It takes ages to get a good economy up and running in Sokker, so personally I wouldn't spend more on coaches than you have coming in. If you can afford him and a main coach I'd recomend putting him into your junior slot, in the long run you'll get better trainess from there rather than from signing players.

When searching for a coach you may not find what you're looking for straight away so reject if you're not happy. It's sometimes easier to search for unemployed coaches using the transfer list. You pay more up front for them obviously but at least you know what you're getting. At the start magical upwards in the skill you're training is ok but you'll want to improve that later.

i checked my coaches and market and i suggest you sack him once you find a replacement. For assistant or junior school you can easily find a formidable for 10-11 k/week.
