Subject: Ireland Vs...

i agree, covering the flanks would be good, but then the players would be missing elsewhere...i think the 4 goal difference is ok and allows to still compete in the goal difference.

Sanabria was quite good on the wing.

Yeah, not bad on goal difference really. Their man Daude was just too good, He was running straight through defenders. Cryan had an astounding game, Save bucket loads of close range shots.

nothing stopping that striker. 89 rating. surely 3x divine

There were some good things today. We managed 9 shots which is a lot more than we've managed against one of the games superpowers before. The formation was bang on in it's ideas, that striker was marked perfectly, he just scored anyway. What killed us was our lake of defending especially against the wingers. I would have probably gone with people with higher defending out wide where the attacks started from. Easy to say I know, but while Shevlin and Foxton had loads of pace it didn't help them much in catching the wingers. Proper blockers might have fared a bit better in the long run. Obviously it didn't help that we're missing a lot of that kind of player due to form problems.

They were far too good today, having said that i think there are some things that can be improved for the return game. Hanrahan just failed abysmally today and normally i wouldnt have played him, especially not against the lone striker . As far as the defenders out wide, we were pretty much crippled by injuries to Creedon and MaGinnis in terms of who we could play. As far as Spain, i got nothing i expected.

I thought it was a very good tactic from Ireland. Spain decisively won the technique vs. tackling duels everywhere on the field. Makes it very tough.

5-0
Bloody strikers slacking off after the good start. It should have been double

No new injuries for the national team and no players banned. Hurrah

This game is mocking me
2009-02-28 13:34:32
Thanks for the match. Though we deserved the win, allthough your team made a decent surge towards the end.

What a match! Brilliant first 30 minutes, a horrible start into the second half and a nice finish.

Scoring 4 goals against Denmark is a great achievement, conceding 5 is a bit too much :-(
Thought that Sanabrias slight injury was decisive, during that time 4 goals were conceded and you couldn't create any dangerous chances.

In my opinion the defense moved a bit too much from one side to the other. Especially the wingbacks shouldn't be that central imo. But that wasn't the reason for the 5 goals.

It was close though and there's still one chance left to get the additional three points!

I haven't much to say. The defence will be tweaked for the next game. I felt it was very similar to the Spanish game where our defenders couldn't deal with their forwards. I feel they were lucky with rebounds etc, we deserved to get something from the game and the injury to Sanabria was key in that we couldn't get the ball away.

Japan 0-4 Ireland

Waste of time. They didn't play the formation I was hoping for, I didn't learn anything and Caffrey picked up a straight red and is banned for next week.

Laptop keyboard just suddenly fixed itself. Wish it had done it before I shelled out on a nice USB one.
