Subject: Ireland Vs...

Lol. Just want to make sure I have this right. In a match where shots were 11-10 and that was decided by 1 goal, my comment that a little better play by Ireland`s keeper could have made a difference is `nonsense`.

Considering that you are arguably the most biassed observer in all of Sokker with respect to this match, I think I`ll take that comment for what it`s worth. :)

Of course Denmark could have scored more goals. Ireland could have too. Arguably, Ireland`s two best scoring chances passed without a shot - where Curley was point blank, unobstructed, yet didn`t pull the trigger (think it was minute 16 & 40).

Denmark scored 3 goals on it`s first 4 on target shots (the one on target shot that didn`t go in was from distance, Cryan spilled a juicy rebound that was converted). That`s not great goalkeeping. Even though he made a couple of saves later in the match, he certainly could have had a better day.

I didn`t take anything away from Denmark. I didn`t say they didn`t deserve the win or anything like that. They did well to hold on considering they were down 2 men and had a middie marking Ireland`s winger for a good portion of the match. Simply suggested 1 more save would have made a difference. Essentially anytime the margin is 1, that`s a valid comment.

Well, isn't it Cpt Obvious here ? :D

Of course it would have been different. But on the other hand, you don't need divine strikers to get the ball past a divine keeper. Even with an incredible striker, you're able to do so. What I'm saying is that the chances we got our goals from, were very good positions, as opposed to most of the strikes that were delivered towards our goal. And that doesn't have much to do with the keepers performance.

Ireland scored 6 goals in two games vs probably the best keeper in the entire game. That's a great achievement in my book.

I can clear this up. I screwed up the defence and midfield in both games. In the first game we could have won and had Sanabria not picked up an injury I'm fairly sure we would have. The second game we were awful, as proven by not being able to beat a team with no midfield. We would have been hammered if not for the sendings off.
I'm disappointed because i look at these games and think they were both winnable but i was overly stubborn with things that didnt work in the first game.

The devs introduced a new instrument into ME i think last summer, that prevents very high scores. I notice again and again that it kicks in big time after 3rd and 4th goals. It takes much much more effort to score 5th goal than first one....

.. it seems to me to kick in around there also.. or that you're players get worse really.. although, i think its based on a margin of difference.. so if its 4-0 and then goes to 4-2, its the same as if it was 2-0 and easier to score again

i am more inclined to think its separate for each team. so if the second team starts scoring goals, it doesnt matter if its 0-0 or 0-5. it just that the first three goals are easire to score than the 3rd and 4th and it gets more difficult after that.

Ah Cramer and Kemp played with defensive orders. I wondered why they were so crap

Depending on upcoming results, whoever applies and the views of the community I may apply to carry on.
I've been looking at the ranking table recently and although we've barely gained any places, we've narrowed what was a huge gap between us and the top 28. That needs to continue next season. In addition to that we've essentially missed out on qualifying by two, single goal games where our keeper and defence didn't perform. If some manager of huge reputation steps forward to lead us to qualification then I'll gladly step aside. What I don't want to do it what I did last time, step aside a season early when we're actually making progress. It'll depend on results anyway, I'm looking to the games against Spain, Scotland and England for signs of progress.

I just had to double take the national team. We've picked up 65 days worth of injuries to 4 major players today.

I was going to post all those points to convince you to stay on - thanks for saving me the trouble :) Good to see the change of mind.

let us know what happens about getting that new database anyway mate..
2009-03-24 03:50:23
I think regardless of what site we're using we're going to need the excel database.
2009-03-24 03:51:38
backup or what?
2009-03-24 05:55:10
Flexibility more than anything but also as a backup. With Excel I can order the players, work out skill values, work out who needs updating etc.
2009-03-24 06:25:49
agreed. could easy backup data from the mandu chavu DB and stuff... backup every half a season..or just copy it down to excel every match/every so often to get skills...

There's no real difference between MC and our site. The code was written by the same person and it's structured the same.
