Subject: Ireland Vs...

2009-06-30 06:14:59
i really dont see a problem with more people having acess to the basic info in NTDB..especially at U21 level...
am sure welchy could be added again now the exams are over..
2009-06-30 07:15:45
I don't either but some people might. I also don't think it's possible to have just "viewer" accounts.
2009-06-30 07:44:28
the account i had originally (last seasons one) didnt have editing ability so far as i remember... although i didnt try much, but i tried updating a players stats directly at one stage and it didnt work..
and yeah, theres not much benefit to knowing the skills of your opponents players though, with the way the ME is :P

I think it can be an advantage alright to have your opponents player skills- I was never comfortable as NT manager knowing so much about the other Shanes squad. Personally I wouldn't agree with widely sharing the DB- I trust Nin (and you if we played) not to gain an advantage from it but widening the access could cause problems in the long run.

i guess it would take away from the challenge a bit alright..at the end of the day you either have the team or not to beat the other person..
i guess you guys know what your on about plus ye have a lot more irish players.. i have one guy on the U21's at the moment only :P
i guess thats why i dont have a problem with it as it wouldnt mean much to me someone seeing my one player :P

I don't mind too much either but I could see a case where one manager would accuse another of having an advantage as he could see the stats of one or two of his players. It would definitely be more a perceived advantage than an actual one but some people are funny about things like that.

too true ;)
might cause more problems longterm than good..so best it stays as it is.
cheers for the input anyway. hopefully we can work something out in future..

at the moment theres 118 players on the U21 database..it could get difficult manage - between me and Nin alone - especially if something comes up for one of us.. its been him adding the most of the players...

118 players in the U-21's but you'll lose a lot of them at the end of the season and most won't be moving up. You can pretty much ignore those players not in the squad, that's what the groups are for.

Anyone with national or U-21 players should update them to the online database within the next couple of days. I'm going to do a big update on Tuesday before I get started with the Trinity Cups.
Ken, I don't know if you've got an Excel database or you use Google Docs but I'll go through them and database, cut out the rubbish and give you the formula I've been using.

You can enter players here.
NTDB
Or Download Firesokker

Venezuela 1-4 Ireland

Ugly, anti-football from Venezuela. Completely ruined my new formation, though we played rubbish anyway. The defence continues to look like a liability on ice.

just been using online database mate ;)
cuts out all the other crap.. dropdowns are handy for editing players.. people are mailing me with updates randomly.. most of the NT U21 players are updated through the database by their managers when they get a pop,
few players are ~10 weeks old on it though.. im after moving to tasmania.. net access will probably be limited..will know over the next few days.. will be able to get online alright, but i dont know for how long at a time etc...
assuming i wont be as active on forums as a result :P
although its more the international forums ill be avoiding :P

I don't think anyone wants to play us this week. I've sent out invites to a number of countries, no such luck.

Australia on Saturday. Haven't beaten them in a while and I'm looking for revenge after the last game.

Time for some National Squad changes I think. I'm going to drop some of the older players who aren't first teamers.

Defenders
Corey Hogan (25) In
Andrew MacCauley (28) Out

Quite similar defenders but Hogan is 3 years younger, a bit quicker and with better passing. He's still not likely to get first team action without injuries and suspensions though.
Next season should see the promotion of Tom Geoghegan and possibly Cormac Hawkins.

Midfielders
Ben Abbott (24) In
Richard Barry-Murphy (28) Out

Barry-Murphy is OK but nothing special, predominantly pace. Ben Abbott returns to the national squad, he offers something a bit different that I could have used last week.
Brendan Frehill might get a promotion next season but it's dependant on how he progresses, at the moment he's too slow. Colin Clohessy currently lacks the tackling to move up and will likely have to wait until he's 23/24 or possibly take a spot on the wings.

Wingers
Murray Schaunig (22) In
Gerard Crossley (29) Out

I've been holding out on this swap due to the poor form and injuries to our current wingers but that's not such an issue now. Crossley is 29 and his time is up, Schaunig is the best replacement and he's 22.
There's a lot of competition for the wings so no-one should be stepping up from the U-21's next season. Holt, Marsh and McGuinnness will eventually replace Lally +2

Forwards

No changes yet. Caffrey and Matthews will be 30 next season but both are still very capable and our other forwards are young and out of form. Niall Beirne, David Mehtens or Corey Croom could take those 2 spots eventually.

good to see the U21's making headway into the squad in future (potentially)

didnt know any of the defenders were going to make it!

those 3 wingers are great alright :)
im always nit picking between marsh and mcguinness...

good update on changes :)
