Subject: Ireland Vs...

After the second goal went in and the ball hit the post for a possible third i was already writing your obituary notice...

especially after what i advised you to do regarding the defensive formation.

Anyway, lesson learned i think. You were lucky to get a result.

I was writing it myself.
I'm aware of what you said and it was on my mind at 3-0 down but I dont think the problems we had would be difficult to fix at all. It was a simple mistake of playing the defenders too wide and picking the wrong ones i think. I'm more disappointed that another match we could have won has ended in a draw.

He caught you totally off guard in the back, as you already pointed out.

If you had the 3 in the back closer together, you would have had a win today.

I felt the wingers were a tad bit too wide but that's more a matter of personal preference.

The game acutally reminded me of the CL finals Liverpool vs. Ac Milan, where Milan were leading 3-0 after the first half and then Liverpool came back in the second.
I looked like the Chile team ran out of luck or stamina in the second half and you dominated it. This showed for example in the offensive throw-ins: almost all of them were lost in the first half and most of them were won in the second - with the players in the same positions...

As a neutral observer i liked the Chile tactics tonight and it was an enjoyable game with a lot of chances. As a fan of Ireland I thought hell we were both very lucky and unlucky tonight...and I loved Matthews. He was fantastic.

The throw-ins are a problem. I'm not sure how i'm supposed to correct that without sacrificing the shape of the formation.
I put the wingers out wide because of how centrally Chile play, it paid off with Sanabria and didn't work with Lizrraga.
I think Chile may have a stamina problem. I watched them against Peru last week and they died in the 2nd half.
I'm trying to look at the result positively anyway. Peru, who have qualified for the World Cup, lost to them. We didn't, we could have won.
Another formation tested, another lesson learnt. We do need to start winning soon though, i think getting into that top 30 could start becoming difficult seeing as everyone around us has been doing what i wanted and getting the games against the newer highly rated teams.

one needs really good players to play wing effectively. I have noticed some mangers only use one winger...the reason might be they only have one player good enough (passing VG+) and also they dont want to sacrifice two players, as players on the wing usually are way out front to help out in defending...

anyway good luck for your next games :)

I like the balance of 2 wingers otherwise it throws off my whole setup. I would love two Sanabria's though. I think Crossley is good enough to play the other wing, his form just isn't good enough at the moment.
I'm not a defensive managers. Our strength is our attack so there is absolutely no point in sitting back and letting teams come and attack us.

I think form matters most with strikers and goalies. I would give Crossley (or any midfielder) a try even though he might be out of form...

I tried him last week although he lacked support i think.
A couple of players may return next week, form or not.

i want to say only that playing 3 defs isn't good idea for me. to mark the arena they must be wide, but then its to many free place in midle for rivals att.
2006-12-10 18:36:08
i forgot - what with DB?
2006-12-10 18:37:31
That would be a problem if they were supposed to go wide. The wide positions are normally covered by the wingers, the defensive mids or one of the defenders. the centre is never left exposed.
2006-12-10 18:38:56
i know tha it could be a problem - and for me Your defence in that game was to wide. defs should play from one square each other.
2006-12-10 18:39:47
What about it?
We've only 5 players on it at the moment. 2 of them are mine.
I was thinking about adding a link to it in the press release later. It's up to people if they want to use it though. Most people i know dont like downloading a programme for something they dont need. Thats why a simple online submission form would have been easier.
2006-12-10 18:40:39
Yeah i know that was the problem with the defence. It's been fixed now and it wont happen again. Kukureka being useless didnt help either.
2006-12-10 18:48:52
i sugest to play 4 defs:) tactic with 3 of them it's possible for only wary strong teams with quick defenders.

about DB - in poland to make it more popular NT coach maked a new Topic in every division. he writed there links, and a notice about DB. and in NT news also You should give links:)

but DB works corect?
2006-12-10 18:57:46
I cant get NT Viewer to work at all.
4 defenders is an option, it's not going to be the rule though. I have 6 formations i can use, 4 at the back is too limiting and predictable for my liking.
Had i used 4 for Chile they still would have scored, we may have not though.

EDIT
Poland is very different to Ireland. We only have a small userbase and it's not necessary to contact all of them i can use the forum or national page.
