mathews had a few chances to score a goal and he missed them
I think you made the right call in trying to rest Matthews- he plays 3 games a week which is always going to bring form down and to have any hope in qualifying we need him scoring. Any chance his manager will rest him for friendlies?
As for the result; a win is a win, it's ridiculous to think we'll be able to match Hungary and Sweden in goal difference- the performance of our strikers today showed that. The only thing I would have done different would be to lose a striker and play a mid just behind two strikers instead (that and some better throw in setups ;) ). Central attacks always give you more gaols than wing attacks and donegan and freyne weren't really involved going forward.
We have two big games coming up now with an entirely different challenge and I have full confidence in you guys giving us a great chance with some inspired tactics. Best of luck next week :)

i took risk with throwins and it didnt work...i agree. still Cashin had some 3-4 good shots from throwins in the first half...
Yeah- but strikers never score from that angle :), a square ball to a mid might have worked better.
Like I said, a win is a win. We've always dropped points against weaker teams in previous campaigns so I think we just need to win these games and not worry about goal difference. A performance like the one against Belgium next week should give us a great chance.

the throw ins werent good. i didnt want to sacrifice another mid for offensive throwins while we had 3 ATTs and reckoned even thouhg they dont score often, there would be enough shots to score some or bounced balls to centrally positioned strikers...it didnt work

No probs :) On another day it might have worked out well.
More strikers doesnt equal more shots. Often it's the opposite because you have to sacrifice the ammunition the midfield gives you. I've always felt you never need more than 2 in any game.
I hope Hutcheson enjoyed his day in the sun (rain) yesterday because i think it'll be his last. I suspect i've found a younger, better keeper that fell off the radar.
yeah it may well be his last but it served its purpose, i was wondering why he got such a high ranking when there were no shots...
Reidy is younger and better one, you mean someone else ?
Yeah somone else. I forget his name but i've added it to the database. He's 22 and his value is over 1.1 mil
Michael Bradbury
Ah hang on, he's English. Sod it. I saw he came from Drunken Wanderers and assumed thats where he started.
