Looking great so far :) Nice formation.

Another great result for you :) I thought the formation really suited our players and in the end we dominated really. The defence was great today, Docherty especially.

It was an entertaining match! ;-)
Bosna i Hercegovina played completely different than I expected, but still the tactic worked.
It was more a kick 'n rush match, but at the moment it seems that you need to have at least 6 players behind the ball to be successful.

Our low passing resulted in many throw ins for the opponent. They weren't that dangerous close to our goal, but in the middle they were extremely dangerous. Goal 2 was because of such a throw in.

The defense looked stable beside the out kicks, Lizrraga played the first time this season and with one goal and one assist he had a great match for sure. He doesn't have that much passing, but his pace and technique skills are the highest in our NT.

Due to Matthews' injury I only played with one striker. Keenan played a little better, Curley has still bad form.

MacKeamish and Curley both got their third yellow card, they're suspended from the next match. But it's good, they'll get more or less "clean" in the WC qualification next season! ;-)

With those two competitors, I was expecting a low scoring match. The first 6 minutes of all-out offense caught me by surprise. :)

Curley still with his fair share of fumbling and bumbling. If he could push out of the mid-range of form I think a lot of that would go away.

A nice result. :) BiH was the king of quirky outcomes in our qualifying group last go round. A result against them is never assured. Well done.

We've had real problems in the past getting results against teams like this, I think it gives us hope for the qualifiers that we got this result today.

More importantly with Keenan showing he can be effective at this level and Curley improving rapidly it looks like we'll have options up front next season which hasn't always been the case. Our midfield is also starting to look quite strong and players like Colbert, Coyne and Dean can still get even better.

Indeed, the match has been very entertaining.

--> Should Ireland need a team to train a NT-Striker, I would be grateful to give him the best training he can get.

Kick-off: 7pm SK-time (we're playing in Colombia)

Looks like a tough game. You'll have to come up with another of your super tactics ;)
2008-05-17 18:52:47
Yesterday when I made the tactics I thought that 3 of our best 4 strikers aren't available (Matthews slightly injured and Cully injured, Curley suspended), but Matthews is ok for today.

Keenen was yesterday the only available striker, and therefore I set a tactics with a deep winger (Lizrraga), who should support Keenen.

Colombia is definitely the favourite, I don't know what happened to them, I thought they're around 25 in the World Ranking.

Anyway, we'll play similar to last week. I don't expect them playing with wingers, so we're playing with 4 defenders instead of 5.
In the offense it's pretty much the same as last week, I put Keenan pretty offensive, he might be in offside position some times, but I see is at the only chance to get him in scoring position as the Colombia defenders seems to play very high.

Matthews will play the second half. The tactics doesn't really fit to him, but firstly I didn't have enough time to creat another one and secondly I wasn't really keen on creating a new tactics ...

I was also looking at the form, all players but the defensive midfielders have great form! ;-)

Lizrraga over Crossley?

Curley and MacKeamish are suspended, a few other of our players have two yellow cards, I hope they get the third one so they're "clean" when the qualification starts! ;-)

Yep, like last week.

I'm pretty pissed ...

60 minutes we were the better team, created more chances, were more in their half.
First goal as so often in the first minute, their player went to three of our players ... no need to say our defenders don't have that weak defending skills ...

Completely wrong place striker resultet in hundreds of offsides, unfortunately our players always played to Keenan or Matthews instead of playing to Lizrraga.

In minute 60 the match was over, no idea how a divine GK can't even stop a pass. And after the red card and the shot from don't know how many meters it was just a torture to finish watching the match.

I watched it again because of the obvious disadvantage we had in the heading duels.
When both players were at the same place, we won 6 headers, Colombia 18 (could be I'm wrong, I watched the match faster than normal). 2 goals resulted from this ...

Another huge loss with the opponent having scored almost 50% of their shots.

Anyway, even though we got 5 goals I don't think the defense was a problem (well, if unearthly defenders can stop the opponent frontside it is a problem), but the midfield was placed wrongly.
One def-mid would have been enough and Coyne/Crossley were too offensive to have an influence ...
Not to mention the far too offensive striker.

Anyway, will answer all things tomorrow, I'm not in the mood right now to say anything more about the match! Sorry ...

Haven't watched it yet but the score seems a little harsh :( Sometimes it just doesn't work, all you can do is move on to the next game and hope your luck evens out in the end.
2008-05-17 21:56:56
Very very cruel result.

They were luckier with the tactics, Coyne/Crossley would be much more dangerous...but they defense was very high and that did the trick.

You must feel terrible Geg, but I must say it was a fun match to watch. Czech Rep won today over Sweden 1-0, but what a boring performance....this was much more fun today :)

Good luck for future games, you are doing a pretty good job.
