Subject: Ireland Vs...

I'll be watching, it'll give me an escape from the database coding.
The database should be getting a visual overhaul in the next couple of days. At the moment i'm just looking to make it easier to use. I'm going to remove the incomplete dutch language and add a numerical option that should be readable by everyone.
I'm pleased to see the return of Barry-Murphy and Brett Neville to the squad. There may be a few more when the database update is complete.

I didnt like that formation. I felt the defence sat back instead of supporting the 3-man midfield, who got pulled all over the pitch. I'm not convinced about playing the wing that high either. I dont think our forwards or wingers have the pace to beat quality defenders and we've more chance playing balls from deeper and hoping to get the run through.
Good points? I thought the defence did well to recover when they got caught out wide and the mids generally played the ball around ok.

Not far from getting a result off of a very good team. :) I have studied Chile's team in the past - I don't think you got many breaks in their line-up today.

The extra level of team passing (in Chile's favour) seemed to make a big difference. They had a much better time hitting their winger. Ireland's attempts led to a number of turn-overs.

Reidy was great in this match. Thought it was a shame Curley didn't get a couple of balls similar to what Keenan got earlier in the match. I believe he's a little better at "barging" through. Though Chile's defense is really good - probably wouldn't have made much difference.

Considering I left a few out and tried a few things it's not a bad result. I've certainly got a better idea of what we need to do to beat the Czechs. Mainly on what we shouldn't do though :) I agree on the tactic, something new will be needed for next week.

I think the wing might have done a bit better if the offside line had worked a bit better for us. Today most of the best passes to Crossley were flagged offside, mainly down to the Chile tactic of quick step ups in certain areas. Whether we have the pace to get through a defence centrally is another question. Matthews got outpaced a few times today which considering he's our fastest striker doesn't bode very well. On the same point I thought Armstrong looked interesting when he came on and split the Chile defence a few times.

Barry Murphy looked a good option today, I'm not sure I could say the same about Brunton in midfield though. Shevlin, predictably, looked out of his depth but I wanted to see if some passing would make a bit of a difference in the full back areas. Coyne didn't let himself down too much in midfield, I may consider him for there next week.

And Curley's going to start the next few games, I think he'll suit how I'm going to set up for them.

The database frontpage now looks a bit nicer and the dutch has been removed. There are still a few problems with the code though. We have two languages (Portugese and English) but no button to switch between them. Portugese will randomly come up some times and the easiest way to get rid is simplify the URL back to http://sokkereire.freehostia.com/ where English should be the default.
Tactical discipline is not currently relevant so there's no need to add that.
Age only goes up to 29 (unless you use the script), which i find odd. I think i can fix that by myself though.
I'm planning on changing the colour scheme of the frontpage.

Completely agree with that!

Two similar tactics, Chile was more dangerous.
The defense was mostly solid, the offense couldn't create many good chances. The second half was better though. Chile's defense looked extremely strong, outpacing Matthews isn't that easy, Keenan never really had a chance to shoot.

Still I think it's not a too bad result ... ;-)

Ireland is very good and strong team, and the tactical idea is excellent; but, final touch is absent in some tactical movements, especially the line of 3 MIDs, that they are very behind in the medium, and they give many possession to the rival.
2 forwards and 1 wing is very used and effective for all the countries

Good luck in the next match :)

good luck today guys!:)

Congrats on the win. :) I thought it was a strong tactical approach from both sides, tho in the end, Ireland deserved to win by a greater margin.

Neither striker hit the ball very well. A number of Curley's shots looked really poor (more like he was attempting to convert a rugby try).

The Coyne - Crossley combination was pretty slick. :)

Good to see Crossley showing what he can do. Matthews was worse than useless. Everything else was fine. I probably would have played 4-4-1-1. It would have meant that when Ecuador sat back in numbers, they left space infront of the defence for a 2nd striker.
2008-07-05 19:18:59
Apart from the strikers it was all fine alright, I would have been happier with a few more goals though. Coyne and Crossley looked dangerous, I think if the strikers had been further forward then Crossleys crosses would have given us more headed chances instead of the passes along the ground that happened instead.

The group stats at the moment look like this-

68.4 Česká republika
67.0 Argentina
57.8 Ireland
57.4 Israel
53.8 Hellas
45.8 Ecuador

Israel and Argentina have improved a lot, I'll be hoping for an upset when the two of them meet next weekend.

Congrats on the win.
Next match against Greece will be crucial.
2008-07-05 19:25:26
Yeah, I'll be aiming for another win with a clean sheet. After that it's you guys, any tips? ;)

For those with the greasemonkey script, it needs updating. Click here

Not much has been said about Greece today. I looked at them briefly last night and thought they werent bad but defence was their main weakness and they wouldnt sit back as much as they did against Argentina and the Czechs. That could leave room for Matthews to run riot.
Win or bust anyway

Well predicted :) I thought it was pretty uncomfortable viewing though, with Coyne and Dean out there wasn't much creativity in our midfield.
