Subject: Ireland Vs...

Yep, you're right. It's very important to have a maincoach who's good in as much skills as possible. I don't really know the effect of the assistants though ...
I know some users who have 3 magical assistants. Personally I think it's not worth it, I have 3 cheap brilliants one (save at least 30k every week) and I still get great training results.

@shane: Probably that's why no good junior mids are available; because you're keeping them all! ;-)

I'm in and have voted for.. myself. Hurrah
I think there is a slight flaw with this election system. If you look at it, only people with votes show up unless you expand the list. I dont think thats particularly fair to those without votes.
My baby? Well i suppose i'm involved but that doesnt mean i should have a monopoly over it. I'd really like to see more Ireland managers interested in the job.

i have a brill youth in 4 weeks - he hits brill next week and then depending on his actual talent might hit magical (3.66 talent with brill coach but cud be 3.75 if he doesnt pop). probably be best to sell for players sake if i get a decent offer caus my training is not up to scratch atm - too much focus on youths.. from what iv seen of good youths they are generally well balanced in skills=midfielder

as for assistants. you only see their effects if your main coach is highly talented in all skills from what im deducing.
i had 3x formiddables and used get 2.66 average pops a week. compare that to 6 over a season and its 48 levels of difference ;)
yeah its 60k extra a week but distribute 48 skillpoints to a player and see what hes worth and tell me if its worth it :)

but yeah the main problem is upcoming youths. there arent many from what i can see to improve the team :)

I'm going through the database at the moment and the players do exist, not many of them but enough. The problem is they're not up to the level of our current nationals yet. Basically most of our best players come from the 26+ range, there's then a gap of about 4 seasons before the new breed start coming through. We're in a transition at the moment where we're still using the older generation while the youths improve and that will probably continue for the next 2 seasons.

haha we can start a new competition so in a few seasons :P

The masters
Over 40's only :P

although 30's mite be a better choice ;) maybe 35

Ireland v Wales

5 min to kick off so here's the starting team.

1 D Reidy

DEF
2 C Creedon
3 D Docherty
4 R Hanrahan
5 M Kukureka

MID
6 C Coyne
7 R Shevlin
8 S Dean
9 D Donegan
10 G Crossely

ATT
11 T Mathews

Wales seem to have a stonger squad, so a lot will depend on what sort of team they put out. Hoping for a result but either way its been a good experience, Thanks Shane

That went pretty well. I'll have a look in more detail later

0-0 :(

A game we really should have won. Matthews was through one on one in the 4th minute and Keenan had 3 one on ones, their keeper saved them a few times. Overall I think it went alright, Creedon was a bit exposed at times with his lack of pace but the defence was solid enough. Crossely did exactly what I wanted him to do, a lot of good balls played in behind the defense for our striker to run on to. We got saved by the pot once but really that was their only clear cut chance

Matthews is out for 23 days :/ sorry bout that.

any opinions?

Yeah i was going to ask for an update on Matthews from his manager but i think i'll pass now. He already hates Matthews playing for Ireland and thats not going to help.
I saw no major problems. Defence came across the field maybe a step too far at one point, forwards occasionally werent as high up the field as they could have been. I prefer Brunton to Shevlin. Nothing else. Not sure what happened around the 87th minute when they broke and we had no defence.

The midfield looked just like it was- a lot of passers but not many spoilers :) It worked though as we moved the ball really well at times and I think with a more mobile striker on the pitch for the full game would have worked out a bit better. In terms of who you picked I would have gone a bit different but that's just different opinions, not a criticism :) I'd prefer Colbert to Shevlin or Brunton in the holding role, I'm surprised you didn't find a place for him but Shevlin covered well in the end. The other one was picking Keenan as your sub striker, Curley might have been a better bet for his mobility seeing as we were relying on the striker reaching through balls.

All in all though it was a great performance- it can be very hard to put together a formation from scratch especially when you're facing a tactic much better than you'd encounter at club level. The important thing was that we never looked exposed in defence and had a goal threat going forward. A nil nil is a good result and on another day might have been a win. Well done fella.

Is Curley's pace higher than Keenan's? The DB shows them being the same
2008-09-20 13:44:24
Same according to me but Curley hasnt been updated in a while so i'd imagine he's quicker.
2008-09-20 13:47:06
Sry Welchy- just realised I sent you an older version where Colbert and Curley weren't as good :( That would explain it then :)
2008-09-20 13:49:09
lol Yeah that'd be it alright. They were both down as having the same pace. Ah well, Keenan did well enough, their keeper made some great saves from his close range shots.
2008-09-20 13:52:14
True, and considering he's better at striker than Curley we might have had one or two more chances but the same result.

Hmm- the database where I had put in the updates via skmail in seems to have dissappeared. They're still all in my inbox though so the info's still there. What stage are you at with a database atm?
