Subject: Any Sca with the NT Nin?
Hey, well done :)
It looked tight there for a while.
You made some good selections.
The defenders would sicken ya the way they concede corners n throw-ins in danergous areas but what can ya do.
I'll have my 2 cents worth all the same.
I think a def mid in front of the back four would work well.
And off mid behind a well pushed up front 2 and
Depending on the strenght of the midfield of the next team I'd nearly advise you to centralise the wingers a bit , see what happens might strengten mid field.

When you say defenders conceding corners and throwins what i think you mean is Hulka conceding corners and throwins. I dont think the others were that bad at all really :)
We had 2 defensive mids infront of the defence, only problem was when we went forward they couldn't get back in time. Having 1 wouldn't have worked against this lot. Their mids run down the centre in lines of 2.
What i did try out but didn't notice was how my wingers got on. The idea was the winger on the opposite side came in just behind the forwards to act as a linkup when he wasn't being used.

Why aren't you playing Martin "the Ledgend" Fairclough anymore?
We've better players in every position as far as i remember. He really isn't as good as his ratings suggest.
Yeah but the other players really respect his wisdom and experience and they know he's a ledgend.
I wasn't planning on dropping him as early as i did to be honest but i got a few nasty suprises when i got the players skills back and various balancing had to be done. He's getting old now anyway so probably wouldnt have been used for the qualifying next season anyway.
Does anyone know why it's so difficult for us to get the easier games? I'm looking at the rankings and the teams around us, they're all playing the newbies and getting big ranking points. I tried to get those games and got nowhere.

Fairclough is a good all rounder- something thats not to be scoffed at. He's the only striker I ever worry about playing against in Ireland.
On arranging friendlies- I don't know if you're using the International Friendlies topic or not, if you are then it's just down to your powers of persuasion really :)
I think you need to relook at what you want your midfield to do. Personally I think a mid can only contribute to off or def, trying for both means he usually just ends up chasing the ball around and never doing anything like our mids today.
A diamond might work a bit better for you where left and right in the diamond have a better chance in influencing both off and def and you actually end up with a dedicated dm. I know you're going to say that the wingers contributed 2 assists today but the question is whether they would have done more centrally. The formation you played against today was nothing special so only winning 3-2 was a bit of a let down. The defense were the guys making the tackles which leaves no room for errors and when they got the ball they wasted it. Having the dms do that job means possession is kept better- defenders should only be for last gasp tackling.
At the moment you're basically playing 4 defensive players and 6 offensive players. In my opinion it should be the other way round- that way I figure you would have won 5-1 or something today.

It's a tough job for you alright, you're right to give up the midfield to him and concentrate on defending and breaking. Best of luck with it :)

Thanks:) i want to win and make a little sensation:)
Compared to the other forwards we have i dont really rate Fairclough at all. He'd be about 6th out of 9 at most if i'm being honest.
As for his formation today it wasnt what i'd planned for at all which is why i dont think it worked very well. I like the diamond idea and i would have used it but with the way i expected him to play, it would have been a disaster. I played wide because, again, i looked at previous games and he didn't cover them. Thats what i meant when i said it was like he knew what i was going to do.
I thought the mids were too far back to be honest, their passing was just a bit too short. It wasn't helped by them changing their defensive line either. Once again i lined the forwards up perfectly, only for the defence to take a step back and bugger the whole thing up.

Too far back for OMs maybe- it would be suicide to put DMs further forward.
The one thing you seem to have a blind spot as well on is that a formation isn't fixed. You need to think about when you move your players, especially in midfield, from side to side as well as up and down. There was a bit today with your wingers but you can go a lot further than that. That's how you can take care of throw ins.
Your forward positioning wasn't too bad really. They were a bit too far back but you weren't to know the other guy would drop his defense. It was noticeable that they weren't picking the ball up as much with midfielders on top of them which helped a lot.

Generally i dont think thats the case. I wasn't happy to move the mids across in this game though because i thought it was more important to cover the centre and i dont think they could get back in time if the ball was centered. The wingers cant defend either so it's not an option to move them inwards.

Ok, i think i have solutions to all the problems that came up for that formation. Just took a bit of thinking and looking closer.
Bring on Sweden then.
