i meant that when u improve along the line you want to create seats there, not benches. its more of a waste to create benches along the line and then replace them because thats where you will build seats first

meaning behind the goal benches are worth more in construction costs vs ticket value for selling the bench than anything else and wont have to be replaced as early on as benches along the line

OK I have now won the league and have 640 fans and in and around 180k to spend.

The options I'm considering are 2000 benches directly behind the nets (cost 155k) or 3000 benches directly behind the nets (put me 50k in debt), or a compromise of 2500 benches.

Am I along the right lines here?

If you're going with benches it's better to build along the lines as it brings in more money.
Looking at your stadium i've go with as many seats/benches as you can afford on the south stand.
