sure, you have better look on irish stars:)
but you have allways problems with technique - forwards to easy lose the ball for me.

mayby i will interested a lot if i will have some money:)
what is his talent?
what is his talent?
Raul is bang on- forward training would be the way to go with him. If he has any talent at all(which considering he got to unearthly is very likely) he'll be a NT certainty. The way you got to look at making the best out of him is that a striker with defending is a great bonus but the other way round is useless. Also I don't think it's worth trying to raise his passing and playmaking enough to make him a rounded defender.
If you're training other non strikers at the moment I'd go with pace and technique until you can phase them out and line up 5 other trainees for a season or two of striker training.

I did consider the forward with defending argument but we've so few good defenders. We've also got some fairly good forwards coming through, unfortunately their form isn't great at the moment though.
Talent ~4
Will train pace for a while, then 1 level of technique, then striker all the way (if that's what we need) I'll keep in touch with his progress.
I presume i'll ignore stamina for a while?

Got myself a keeper:
Flip Fleming, age: 19
value: 122 500 €, wage: 1 575 €
club: Ulster Emmigrants, country: Ireland
very good form, tragic tactical discipline
unsatisfactory stamina, solid keeper
unsatisfactory pace, hopeless defender
hopeless technique, hopeless playmaker
average passing, tragic striker
Gonna sell him

Also, ben is bouncing through levels of technique, presume a few weeks of pace won't fo him any harm?
Ben Abbott, age: 18

brilliant form, adequate tactical discipline
adequate stamina, hopeless keeper
solid pace, solid defender

i still think, that he should be forward.
also - if Turnipfish will traning him - nex season, with 20 years he will be at least 3x formidable - and he will be worth at least 6m euro... he will never take so much money traning him as defender.
edit - formidable of corse:)

Ages
We wont have a defender under 23 next season and those coming through from the U-21 really are in no way good enough. Most of them wouldnt get into my club team.
Shane Berrigan 27
Jim Walsh 26
Richard Hanrahan 24
Matthew Kukureka 25
Derek Docherty 22
Wayne Hulka 26
Jerry Deane 25
Andrew McCauley 22
William Brunton 24
Brett Neville 24
Jerry Lestina 23
Jared Hendrikx 25
Conor Morris 24
Jimmy Colbert 26
Jon McKeon 23
Derek Freyne 28
When we come to the forwards we've got
Johnny Keenan 25
Ian Chaudet 27
Sam Cashin 27
Terry Matthews 23
Brendan Cully 24
Joe Phelan 21
Jim Caffrey 23
Gerard Lynch 23
Now Matthews, Cully, Caffrey, Phelan and Lynch are good enough or will be good enough to play for the national team and we're set for the next 4 seasons in terms of forwards. Thats not considering the other trainees coming through.

money's not important, just want irish stars in my team again
Ben Abbott is potentially more interesting than your other guy. We do need central mids with defending, we're screwed this week against Venezuela with Armstrong, MacKeamish and Donegan out.
I think the best thing to do would be to train pace and leave your options open. Training pace allows you to try him in both positions. I'm still in favour of him as a defender. He could have a high sub-level of Defending and low of striking but you wont know until you test him in both.
Playmaking for defenders... its not a priority. We dont have the luxury of being able to pick and choose one all-round defender from another. The main thing is being able to defend and as long as he's got passing or playmaking i've no problem. Its when they have neither that theyre not an option.

I'll have a lot of good defenders (with passing + Pm ;) ) by the end of next season- from the looks of things the other Shane will have some as well. Rafa and Karloss both train defenders afaik. I think strikers will be our long term problem. I'd train both those guys for a season at least in pace and technique before looking at how the NT is looking for players. We don't get many youths as good as him and it would be a shame to make him a one dimensional defender.
amazing youth pull fella!
would love to train him in defending but the guys probably a better striker.
I love having my strikers with good+ defending but he's already better!

have another one here I'm bit unsure of - hes training real fast (4 levels of technique in 8 weeks). hes getting technique for now and obviously needs stamina then. what you reckon after that? hes too much of an all-rounder!
Kevin Foxton, age 20
value: 227 250 €, wage: 2 450 €
very good form
average stamina,
very good pace,
good technique,
good passing,
hopeless keeper
formidable defender
very good playmaker
very good striker

He already has the minimum requirement defending for a defender so i'd probably go with that. I dont see you having the time to train his passing up for him to be good enough for the midfield and the same goes for forwards when he'd need a lot of technique.
Basically the more he resembles Brunton the better.
