I'm confused by something.

Driessen gets injured and because I messed up Verz orders and had him marked as a mid, Carew comes on. Why Carew though, he wasn't the first sub to come off the bench? It should have been Shields who came on for Driessen

It is because Shields was marked as DEF?

Driessen is marked as an attacker

Verz isn't marked as an attacker so he doesn't come on when Driessen gets injured

At that point, the player who is supposed to come on is supposed to be the first outfielder left on the bench, that's Shields.

What was Carew marked as?

Mid

The orders are irrelevant if there isn't a similarly ordered player on the bench. Strikers are supposed to be replaced by strikers, if there isn't a player with that correct order, the player who is supposed to come on is the first from the bench.

this was discussed on the forum recently also..
someone had a match vs bots coming up where few of his main first team were red card etc so he wanted to know the lineup.
i dont think anyone actually predicted it correct. the subs come on completely randomly imo
