Subject: Ultras, supporters in Uruguay.
Hi, I want to know something about ultras scene in Uruguay. I know, that more important clubs are in Montevideo, especially Nacional and Penarol, but the rest? How look situtaion with other clubs in your capital and in other citys?
Which club are most popular in Montevideo? I saw information that Nacional stadion have a 80.000 capacity, and Penarol stadion only 15.000. This difference is a result bigger popularity Nacional club?
Cheers :)

Nacional and Peñarol are the only teams with a big amount of fans: all the rest of the clubs in the country do not account more than 12000 fans each (and thats a lot for most of them).
But Nacional and Peñarol can say that they have at least 1 millon fans each (in a country with 3 million people thats a lot to say).
El Estadio Centenario is the biggest stadium, built to play the final match of the 1930 World Cup in Uruguay, and currently it can hold up to about 65000 attendance.
The second stadium in size is in the city of Rivera, that can hold up to 30.000 people, but there are currently no teams playing profetionally from that ciy. The third, fouth and fifth place in the size of stadiums can be distributed between the following: Parque Central (Nacional... about 22000), Estadio Luis Troccoli (Cerro... about 22000), Campus Munical de Maldonado (also owned by the State, but the local team Deportivo Maldonado plays there... about 22000).
Peñarol also has a stadium (dont believe what Marto says because he is a Nacional fan and wont admit this... he also believes he is a Nacional "ultra" but he is only a pigeon). The stadium of Peñarol is really small... can hold up to 12000 people, but its bigger that most of the stadiums of the rest of the teams. Anyway Peñarol is not allowed to play there because the club has too much fans and it is believed it would be "risky" to allow matches in such a small stadium. The problem is that when small teams play home, they receive Peñarol in even smaller stadiums and they are allowed to do so (various obscure interests can explain this phenomenon).
Anyway, in most of the cases Peñarol plays in the Estadio Centenario (the club sets the Statal stadium as its home stadium and pays a fee) and many times also plays as a visitor there (when playing agains Nacional, that for important matches also sets Estadio Centenario as their home stadium, and playing against small teams that want to make money -because they can receive the big crowds that Peñarol brings-).
Regarding the ultras, several teams have fierce ultra groups, but only 2 teams have big ultra groups: those are Nacional an Peñarol. There are other teams such as Cerro or Rampla that have fierce ultra groups but they are small sized.
