Subject: Living in Beograd
Hello people :)
I hope writing in English here is OK.
I'm thinking about moving to Belgrade (I got a job offer there). What can you tell me about the city? How much can it cost (basic stuff) for a single person to live there? Will people have patience with my zero Serbian skills? :P
I only spent 3 days (slightly more than 1 "net" day) there before, so anything you can tell me would be useful.
Thank you all!

I think I'd be better off learning some serbian eventually, but it is good to be able to survive with English at the very beginning :P
Any estimate on what the overall "living" monthly costs can be? I mean, buying groceries, taking buses, and paying utilities mostly (then if there's something left we can discuss going out :P).
@majti_orion
I think I tried дуњевача during my short stay - at least, it was some quince brandy :P

Well, about monthly costs, it depends of a life style, I mean, how much do you eat, and WHAT ... :)) Bakeries are nice places to eat burek, pizza and other meals like that (breakfasts mostly), and restaurants are for lunches etc. Utilities, well, that depends on apartment, I mean how big it is, but that shouldn't be more than 100 euros, and yeah, bus, some 20-30 euros on monthly base ...
On the other side, dunjevača is 9 euros, loza 10 .. (1l) xD

living costs?
Living costs is like in any other European country: bills for that kind of apartment is around 200 eur ( electricity, cable TV, internet, mobile phone... ) and that mean the total cost of your future apartment is around 400 - 500 euros. For food you will pay some average European prices : 1kg of meat - around 4 euros, milk 1l is around 0.6 eur, and bla bla bla...In short cut - if you wanna wake up alive - you need another 500 euros. So, 1000 euros per month will be just fine...
Welcome and good luck!

Oh come on, his wage wouldn't probably even be that much.
Graz: http://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/city_result.jsp?country=Austria&city=Graz
Consumer Price Index (Excl.Rent): 92.01
Rent Index: 36.52
Groceries Index: 85.86
Restaurants Index: 73.28
Consumer Price Plus Rent Index: 71.93

So Graz is considerably more expensive than Belgrade and I'm doing decent with 450 euros.

Mine bill per month in summer (Internet, Cable TV, Electricity, Mobile Phone) is about 60 euros.. in winter, bill is about 110 euros (becouse of gas).. I'm from Novi Sad, and my appartment cost me 150 euros per month.. Appartments are more expensive in Belgrade, and you will need about 200 euros per month for it.. all other stuff are almost same..
So, when you get used to life in Serbia, you will learn that with salary of 500-600 euros, you can live like a king :D

there. you've got some basic info and if you decide to make that step , there are a lot of us from sokker community willing to help. ;)
