I read in a guide somewhere that you should ditch all juniors that weak or below. Or was it keep the ones weak +?

Anyway i can't find that guide and wondered what experienced coaches keep and get rid of.

I keep all weak + with at least 14 weeks to go just to check their talent.

I personally go for average and above, and sack if talent goes above 7 (with formidable coach) or keep the untalented ones if they come out solid or higher.

Someone made a point the other day that even an adequate youth can come out as a trainable player (normally a 'keeper) but possibly a 16 yo too so it's worth seeing the lower end stuff through, even if it's just to sack them.

Managers in higher leagues probably won't keep people quite as untalented, though.

Neither do I.

Anything over 5.5 skill gets dumped as does anything under good for 10 weeks or less and the rest get to stay until their talent shows.

Probably not a hard and fast rule. There's always the possibility of a 16 year old if you get a weak 10 or similar on a Saturday morning.

I tend to scrap anything over 5 weeks unless they have a lot of weeks left/and or at a decent level already.

Hard and fast with a 16yo on a saturday morning? Is that you graham rix?

Is he a kiddie fiddler? He managed Oxford in recent seasons. No wonder all our youth talent look a little "scared".

If I remember the story correctly, he pulled some bird in a night club and after the deed was done found out she was underage. Not sure how the nightclub in question avoided some sort of recourse.

That's what i heard too.

Does anyone know how many young players you should allow in the Juniors? Enough for them to have a kickabout?!

Keep the good ones. Their talent will dictate the size of your youth team. Assuming you can afford it, that is. Once it got pretty full, I found mine fluctuates between 18 and 26 youths.

Oh right - well i only have 1 player in there! Do i get them assigned randomly or is it 1 per week per update?! Also, does it cost more to have more in there, or does it just impact on their skill increase?
2007-11-25 13:09:52
Yes you get juniors assigned randomly and it is possible you could get a maximum of 6 juniors a week so if you can afford it keep 6 slots open. Yes it will cost more to have more juniors but it will not impact on skills :)

Newbie alert!!!!

I'm getting a bit confused with this junior business...

How many juniors should i have as a minimum?

I've only got 6 at the moment.
2007-12-22 12:37:28
Every saturday new juniors appear, up to a maximum of 6, so most people keep 6 places open (but when you get up to a certain number i can be costly for newbie).

Now the new juniors come it at different levels, and of course you don't know their talent either. They also come in with a different number of 'weeks till you can pull them'.

Most people would get rid of anything below weak straight away, if you have a high number of weeks with a 'weak' junior, it could be worth keeping him.

What skill is your youth coach?

To be able to survive reasonably in your division, you wont want to go much over 15 juniors.

I often keep 4 places open, as 6 don't always join and it saves me a bit of money usually.

Remember to keep how many extra slots you want open before Saturday.

Good luck.
