I need some new blood after sacking the odd player.

I have a new team but most are 'crap'

As I am new to the game could some one give me a suggested 'spec' for each position that is affordable for a newbie?

Train your own players first. Have you read robnob's newbie guide?

If you want to know if your guys are good you could sk-mail me.

hi kipper,

phil fox has had a look and he reckons most are crap!

I have read the newbie guide...I have had a look at the TM and notice some decent players over 30...worth buying?

Don't buy over 30 as they will not get better. You need to take a long term approach in this game and that means training.

I would try and get 17-18 year olds with average skills that you can turn into excellent to foridable skills and sell on.

someone like this i'd go for

Klaudiusz Dąbrowski, age: 17
value: 27 300 £, wage: 465 £
club: komuhy, country: Polska
very good form, tragic tactical discipline

poor stamina, tragic keeper
good pace, adequate defender
average technique, average playmaker
tragic passing, weak striker

and then train stamina and then defending

No idea how much you can afford but these give the useful skill pattern.

Striker
formidable stamina, ---- keeper
solid pace, ---- defender
solid technique, ---- playmaker
---- passing, solid striker

Defender
formidable stamina, ---- keeper
solid pace, solid defender
xxxx technique, xxxx playmaker
xxxx passing, ---- striker

Mid
formidable stamina, ---- keeper
solid pace, xxxx defender
solid technique, solid playmaker
solid passing, ---- striker

xxxx =useful to have a bit
---- = no need

Vanc, it takes quite a bit of money to get guys like that
2007-12-29 19:27:39
Yep. £400-600K for the striker.
2007-12-29 19:31:55
I only have 130k...maybe I should wait until I get a few fans and get going a bit?
2007-12-29 19:32:50
yeah, I think thats a plan, the 17 year old I mentoined will be selling in a minute if you want a look
2007-12-29 19:39:49
well - it gives the proportions to look for

If you're training mids then aged good/good/adequate striker might be all you can afford at the front but at least you won't repeat my early mistake of thinking good/tragic/excellent was wise

best to spend your money on trainees at first and use the dross you were given for the rest.

After a while the trainees will be so much better than anything you can afford now that they'd be an embarrassment

I would disagree that mids don't need striker... if you are playing an offensive mid in the pocket behind two strikers, you will want him to have striker ability to slam them home. Also with the recent m.e. changes wingers benifit from striker, as they are more likely to go for goal, especially if played high.

You are preaching to the converted here - I have an offensive mid who I went to the trouble of training to outstanding striker and a winger with excellent

but

this is for beginners remember - it's a luxury. To a beginner I recommend packing the middle rather than fancy things like wingers and offensive mids - the skills needed to capitalise are too expensive

@ Wheelnut

I started 3 seasons ago now, what I did was look at my squad. I searched for any decent trainees in my squad and I then sold them. Why?

Well I got ok money for them, I then bought 6 striker trainees that were 16 or 17 with very low abilities, these cost me between £667 and £10k. Their abilities at best were good in 1 skill and average or adequate in the other 2 main qualities for a striker.

I then bought youngish players in the other areas, you will ideally be training stamina to solid level on your team to start with and then move onto a whole season of pace at least. This enables your whole team to improve quickly whilst also training your trainees etc. In this time you will build supporters and your finances should improve quickly.

The pace training will enable you to gauge the talent of your trainees and other first teamers too. Hope this helps. I will give you ideas of the players I bought to start with shortly.

I stated similar, although being more recently new, you have more of a clue of what you can afford in striker trainees.
