Subject: Off-season training

Hi all
After the last league match of the season I will have done 6 weeks stamina training. By then, most of my players will be on Very Good or better stamina. My intention is to swap to training technique at some point - presumably for at least a season.
Would I be correct in guessing that there could be a flood of trainers hitting the transfer market as people swap to stamina training for the off-season? If so, might it make sense for me to look for a cheapo low-wage technique trainer (cos money is tight), or should I carry on with extra stamina through the off-season?
Hope the question makes sense. Regards, John.

All makes total sense fella.
As you will not be playing a play-off game after your last league game on Sunday, i would stick with stamina until week 1 of the new season (after the first cup game on week 0).
This will mean most of your players will be around formidable stamina, which will be perfect for your new technique regime ;o)
There are 3 unearthly technique coaches on the transfer list at the moment with pretty much the lowest wage you can get; £3.5k, if you're interested.

Just as a side note, you may want to think about training Pace instead????
The reason I say this is that it improves your whole team, whereas technique does not.

Hi guys,
Thanks for the replies - Looks like I'll probably stick with stamina.
Also thanks for the guestbook entries, makes my main page look slightly less sad....

Hi wdp74,
I take your point - I was looking at technique, mainly to train this guy, who looked like the standout from my start-up team...
Kieran Kettley, age 18
value: 60 750 £, wage: 705 £
outstanding form
good stamina,
very good pace,
unsatisfactory technique,
good passing,
hopeless keeper
tragic defender
good playmaker
good striker
Am I right in thinking technique is the way to go with him - to fill in the obvious gap, or have I totally missed the point somewhere? (seriously, please say if I have - I'm not sensitive..)

training technique is a good decision. He is one hell of a starting player to have!
how many weeks has it taken to get his pace from solid to very good?
Technique is the logical step especially if you can get some randoms on the other skills

Yay!..
It's nice to know I'm not being a complete idiot (although others may disagree...)

Kipper88,
I've only trained stamina. He definitely came "out of the hat" with Very Good pace. Out of interest, why do you think he started at Solid - is there some sort of upper limit for startup player skills?

I guess he presumed he has popped in your team fella.
I don't believe there to be an upper limit on starting players?
Anyway, you're being very critical of yourself ;o) as you seem to understand perfectly.
Pace, as has already been suggested, is a good choice, but the benefit of training something other than pace is that you do not need a squad full of 22 players, and can perhaps afford slighter better coaches/more juniors.
Technique certainly wouldn't be a bad choice with that player...i hope he's talented!

no, its just that you can tell how talented a player is by how long it takes to pop between levels.
He is an awesome start up player btw, train his tech then and then onto other skills like passing and playmaking

Thanks, that's good news. (I guessed he was pretty good, but when you're starting out it's hard to tell)..
Once I've started on tech I'll keep track (I've got Sokker Organizer), and come back for advice when I know what his talent is.

that would good. Good luck with the new season.
Hi - a follow on question...
I've got 9 or 10 cheapo (costing £1k to 7k each) trainees in place, to give another few weeks stamina, then tech training (for MID). I decided to sell my "redundant" players to save on wages and err, rather to my surprise got £85k for them (which looks mad to me, but I'm not complaining).
Suddenly it seems a bit daft to be training a bunch of £2k players when I guess I could afford to upgrade, say, 5 of them for £20k each. So - should I spend the windfall, and if so, what sort of level of player could I get for that money?
Clearly I could work it out for myself by following the transfer market for a while, but I'd like to move quickly to get the new guys in time to give them some stamina. Any ideas appreciated.
Regards, John.
