Subject: Off-season training

2008-01-23 20:46:01
Hi - a follow on question...

I've got 9 or 10 cheapo (costing £1k to 7k each) trainees in place, to give another few weeks stamina, then tech training (for MID). I decided to sell my "redundant" players to save on wages and err, rather to my surprise got £85k for them (which looks mad to me, but I'm not complaining).

Suddenly it seems a bit daft to be training a bunch of £2k players when I guess I could afford to upgrade, say, 5 of them for £20k each. So - should I spend the windfall, and if so, what sort of level of player could I get for that money?

Clearly I could work it out for myself by following the transfer market for a while, but I'd like to move quickly to get the new guys in time to give them some stamina. Any ideas appreciated.

Regards, John.

Yeah it could well be worth spending it on more trainees maybe sell your worst 2 and spend 80k on 2 new ones.

I would suggest holding firm until you know where you are financially, e.g. after a 2 week home and away cycle.

Others (including PhilFox, one of the better tacticians in England) would suggest playing the market - money on the pitch always grows when the market is inflationary, provided you're training youngsters their value can only increase.

Somewhere in the middle of those extremes is probably sensible.

Hi NCN
I've had a couple of 2-week cycles and am almost exactly breaking even (given that my wages have just dropped by £3k a week).
My understanding is that we get a "bonus" at the end of the season of 1.5xSponsorship plus £75 per fan club member - based on that I'd expect to have about £220k total at the start of next season.
Even allowing 100k in reserve for stadium expansion (although that may be quite some time away) it looks like I could spend 80k ish and stilll have room to manoeuvre...

then you may as well sell first, and use the money to add to what you have to buy. Sounds to me like you'll be in a good position for your league. My bank balance is currently 13,000 pounds - I always try to keep my money on the pitch.

Sounds cool to me.

Try to put players on the market on Fridays between 18:00 and 20:00, the deadline will then fall on peak time on Sunday.

You seem well equipped.

My personal opinion would be to splash on a youth coach around the formidable level and start opening the youth school (if you haven't already).

You will probably be able to afford to keep about 10 places open, and it's a fun part of the game, especially if you that talented mega player worth a million.

If I train pace pre-season, will all my players benefit?

cos I thought stamina was the only method of training that could benefit players that didn't play!
2008-01-26 03:42:03
Unfortunately not. Pace trains only those who play - which is still 11, so potentially worthwhile. You're right in your assertion. :-)

Indeed, it would still be twice as worthwhile than technique, for example.

-84k lol but its goin to b straight qualification 4 me. (optimistic) Is it worth being in this much debt tho???
2008-02-06 14:33:47
That's how much you're in debt? You're staring bankruptcy in the face then, as you're still in IV!

A bonus payment should be arriving soon...
2008-02-06 14:46:37
True, probably put him on about £0...wonder what his wages are like...
