As the season draws to an end I am thinking about what I should train next season. This season I have trained mainly pace with 3 weeks of stamina. The results have been not brilliant. I am ending the season with most of my squad in the excellent to average range for pace, the mean being 6 (adequate). Each player has popped pace an average 1.7 times during the season.
Are my players lacking on the talent front?
Should I continue to train pace? I think my team could do with some defence training but I would like to know if its worth getting a few more pace pops.

coach is unearthly. most of my players are 18-24
Indeed, i think my biggest mistake to date is trying to train players in pace that are too old.
From the Rules: pace is a physical training and thus its effectiveness depends on both a player’s age and talent.
In my opinion, when people say pace trains slower than other skills it's because it is not just talent driven but age driven too, which the other skills are not.
If some of your player have popped twice in pace, you could list how long it took in weeks, the age of the player and the skill of pace they have popped to. This will give an indication of whether to keep or sell, and move on to a different training regime.

Here's my nugget.
Choose a primary area to train.
Buy more trainees than you need. If you can find out the talent from the seller, it's worth paying more.
Train pace long enough to work the talent and train to reasonable level.
Sell the least talented.
Switch to training the primary.
Repeat

Thanks for the advice.
Fooks and Cartier are 2 of my better players unfortunately.

I'd add Waldron to that list.
On the other hand:
Brocklehurst
Lesniarek
McKinnon
all have reasonable talent for a IV side, so i'd keep these. It's fine having the odd over 22 yo player if they are your better players, but when training pace don't expect them to pop too much.
If you choose to move away from pace, then get rid of those untalented ones and perhaps train something that fits more around the talented players you do have, and buy some trainees to fill the gaps.

And that's what my other question is. With the level of pace that is in my team should I be boosting pace (mean adequate) again this coming season or trying to up another skill. I think my whole team would benefit from def.
sometimes it best not to think what will boost the whole team but what will benefit your most talented players as this is where you will make the most improvement and therefore the most money
Yep, personally i think you should move away from pace for the time being, unless you are willing to get rid of your 21yo+ players, and replace them with trainees.
Ultimately it is your choice, if you want to look at a longer term training plan and forget about promotion next season you could get in 11 16-18yo's and train pace again for at least a season.
A mean of adequate in pace at this stage though is fairly respectable...do you mind listing your better/talented players' skills to help on what to train next?

McKinnon is mising a stat ;o)
Definately sell Brocklehurst. He needs some 'keeper training to be any good, (i presume you have a better 'keeper) and he make you a few pounds if you advertise his talent.
I would say those players would most benefit from technique.
Do you have a mentor?
