Subject: What should I do with...

My 18 year old with..

average stamina, tragic keeper
average pace, adequate defender
adequate technique, adequate playmaker
good passing, hopeless striker

He has distinctly, err.. "modest" skills, but he's one of my most talented players (11 weeks to get from tragic to adequate technique)

My problem being that I have just switched to striker training, which I guess would be wasted on him.

So, should I a) hang on to him without training for a season, b) train him in Striker or c) sell him?

Your thoughts appreciated.

In that case you should sell him.

Striker training would be useless for him. Won`t increase his value unless you don`t plan to train it 3 seasons. Sell.

I'd take a screenshot of his training in technique, posting a public note about his talent is likely to increase the price.

Also if you do sell, look to advertise in appropriate places, junior transfers would be the best place.

Sorry if I'm being dim, but.. "junior transfers" being a specific forum (which I can't see), or a particular thread in a forum?
2008-05-01 13:27:37
Not dim at all, as it's not obvious...

...you need to type in "junior transfers" in the search box and it will come up. You will then be able to add this forum to your others so you won't have to search for it next time.

He isn`t good enough for that forum.

Aha!! Found it - thanks.

I thought that...baboon, remember to read the rules in that forum, they are quite strict ;o)

Vilpu - OK, I've just read the rules thread, so obviously won't post in there. It's useful to know about for the future, anyway.

try the "valuation forum"
you will get to know how much to expect for him
2008-05-01 13:51:54
Yup, not many valuators there, but there are no skill requirements anyway.

There are several similar players on transfers list, observe them
2008-05-05 10:27:24
Thanks all for the replies. I took the advice to Sell, Observe to judge price and do the screenshot thing to prove his talent.

Observing players with similar skills (although with unknown talent) indicated £30-40k for him, which seemed about right to me. As it turned out he went, to my surprise, for £325k (hooray!)

I'd be interested to know if people think that the buyer simply overpaid, or does the price reflect the high value of being able to prove a players talent?
2008-05-05 10:51:45
It proves that talent screens are definately worth it...whether he was worth over £300k...i think you've done pretty brilliantly there!
2008-05-05 10:52:54
wow! considering he will be 19 shortly, that seems like WAY TOO MUCH paid! get in! happy birthday to you ;-)

Cool. I think that confirms my suspicion that provable talent is valuable but not that valuable, unless you're a jammy herbert like me :-)
