Subject: tactic setup

ive been a player sokker for quite a while now and understand the basics of the tactic setup but for some reason im struggling in creating a new one. my problem is when i setup a new tactic the players dont seem to be starting in the positions i want them.this may sound very vague but what i mean is i setup a tactic on the tactics page n when i go to place them as a match tactic the tactic comes up but the players arnt in the positions i put them.does anyone know a reason why? and has this got anything to do with not doing my tactics on all the squares? if i did do the tactics on all the squares would my players start where i put them? i recently had a problem where i wanted to play a defensive 451 but the players starting position looked more like 433 as the wingers were so high up. i hope someone can throw some light on this for me...many thanks

Don't worry it should have worked ok.

The position that your players appear in on the tactics summary screen is their average tactical position, not their starting position.

E.g. if you play 4 at the back with the fullbacks pushing up, they'll appear ahead of the centrebacks on the summary screen.

Are you saving the players positions for every square you're changing (click the save button)? For a complete new tactic, there are 35 squares that could be changed. Each square requires you to save before moving onto the next. Hope this helps.

You don't need to save after each one, just make sure that you change each lot of positions, in each possible square, when you're setting it up.

Yep, creating a tactic is bad enough as it is, but it'd be a nightmare if you saved each section, it'd take ages!

Aren't you supposed to change all 35 squares then? Have i been wasting my life?

you should change all squares, you just don't need to click "save tactic" after each square. only at the end. i do it every line of squares just incase i screw up

I have been doing that as well upto now. It has been discouraging me to do the tactics every now and then due to this.

If you take the time to create a solid tactic and tweak it here and there then you can get by with that alone. It depends on your opponents but a good custom tactic will beat nearly all IV teams and most III teams.

Also remember that you can use the copy and paste feature - I sometimes build one tactic per horizontal level, then copy across all 5 positions, tweaking a little - rather than dragging players all over the place!
