astonp [del] to All
what sort of stats should i be looking for in a midfielder to make a difference in div 3?
my current lot get marks of around 30 and are my weak point as they are young.

ratings can be deceptive

question is how much passing or defence they should have - depending on position and assuming a reasonable level of all round skill

according to dreamteam div iii.08 had these top mids in round 11

Gerard Miskin Kalocsa FC Hungary 58
Felipe Alarcón Wenlock Warriors 57
Rudolf Kiškár Old Evertonians 57
Wenlock Warriors 56
Bożydar Pietrzykowski Old Evertonians 56

Might give an idea

so just a bit of def, pm and passing
with the usual pace and stam?

one of your rivals is selling/advertising the following:
Karol Lubomirski
formidable stamina hopeless keeper
outstanding pace formidable defender
poor technique excellent playmaker
outstanding passing solid striker

a defmid I suppose - rubbish tech but sacrifices must be made sometimes.

Seems like formidable/outstanding skills will see you alright - pace, tech, pass and pm on wingery/offensive mid players. Defence added of course for defence mids.

i only have about 2/3 skills above formidable in my whole squad lol
ah well, i shall keep browsing the tm :)
thanks

buy lower and train up
that was my plan anyway

presumably a bunch of rounded excellent-ish players might prevent immediate demotion and you can build from that

Most III's need a team rating of 40+ to compete. My mids are 40+ so I would suggest 40 - 45 ratings on average. But ratings can only be a guide, so around solid/excellent skills with PM - passing & pace with good/solid tech & adqt/good defence should be a decent mid in III

buying rounded trainable mids may well be out of his price range - they cost a fortune at this time of the season.

After 1 less season than you at the time, my midfielders' ratings in their first III game were as follows:

42, 33, 39 and 43. I won 7-0.

As has been said though, ratings are pretty misleading but not bad as a guide.

My advice would be to get the left side as high as possible. Ideally pace, tech and passing solid/very good+ and train away.

Just joining a III and then trying to get out of one at the other end are completely different things. Your players don't need to be formidable/outstanding everywhere to get 2nd/3rd.

For me, the most important skill for a midfielder is defending. So if you are looking some new players, then definitely keep defense in mind. They can stop opponent strikers even before the ball moves near the defenders. They will make less fouls, than the players without that skill. My mids have unearthly, magical, magical, outstanding defense and they rock.

But I just checked your players and if you have some money, then the right place to invest it is to new quality trainees.

You did a amazing job winning the qualifier astonp. Good Job mate. The other team had much better players but your tactics were far superior and that won the game for you. Well Done!
