Subject: good div 4 manager looking for active new player who needs help.

2009-09-28 04:25:14
im at a stage where i feel i know enough about the game to help mentor another new manager with anything i possibly can. i was mentored myself by an experienced player and just feel i should pass it on so others have the best possible chance. i dont mind how new u are but the only conditions are: you must be english(or speak it very well) and must be active at least 2 times a week and possibly will help over MSN too. private message my profile if ur interested as comments on here may be missed for some reason.

Having seen your post in the squad strengthening thread, I vehemently disagree.

This is a joke thread, isn't it?

He's just doing his best

I would say that someone playing well in Div.IV may well have valuable advice to give due to recent experience of starting out - and shouldn't be afraid to share it in forums...

However, being a mentor should mean more than some recent experience of getting started. It should certainly mean more than playing 7-8 weeks as some things that look clever after a month look pretty different in your 3rd season in IV

well im not dumb and my mentor said that i he cant rele teach me anythin else. im beatin my div team mates comfortably. im not losing by much to division 3 players (look at last weeks friendly) and im makin a profit every week unless i buy players or expand stadium. i know what to look for in players and different ways at going at building to promotion. i know what attributes are best for each position and how to train players. i know how much players should go for compared to how much they are worth. theres not much else to know about this game than that rele. ive been on this not long but i know just about as much as u can know without going up a division. im not some little kid but im jus tryin to help other people. the amount of people u see play this once then leave it is staggering and i think its because they dont know what to do. i considered not playin after my first day or so but i perservered and when i found out more about it i quickly progressed.

so u would reccomend spending more money than is clever getting a youth system going at division 4? it would cost 2 times more than u start the game with plus the overdraft u are allowed to make a decent youth side let alone pay for coaches and their massive wages. anyone who cant afford at least a fully "solid" coaching team and youth coach shouldnt rele bother with it coz it will drag them down. trust me i tried it and it just put me further into debt. i asked other managers and they agree. starting a youth team should only happen after making sure u are secure in division 3

i appriciate u sayin that im tryin to do my best coz its true. 90% of the players probs dont have a mentor and wont be promoted because of it. if they have some help then they might just be able to. i had help and im a dead cert for top points in a division with a team with better average value than mine(not that value means all that much) and another team who have both been in it for at least 5 seasons each

also i am starting a youth system as soon as i am completely out of debt caused by the attempt of my first youth system

No. Nor did I state that. Were I to be starting again today (something I'll be doing in a few seasons, actually, to see what it's like these days, having started with the first wave of England managers) I'd concentrate purely on training, and forget about results and youth team. When I could afford it, I'd be looking to start a youth team. That'd probably be at the start of the season I expect to be solid in div III although it may come later/earlier than that as I don't know the exact sponsorship figures involved.

You're trying hard and you clearly want to help but my advice would be not to bother until you have a bit more experience. You clearly still have much to learn and the odd tip or two is fine but not a full on mentor. I started my youth school straight away and it can be afforded. I would recommend it to all new starters.

I don't think affording coaches, trainees AND a youth school is doable from the off these days. The sponsorship in Div IV makes it too tricky, apparently (not that I know). You have to make a choice, I reckon. Anyway, I'll be able to let you know once I've restarted :)
2009-09-29 11:26:11
The sponsor money is exactly the same, if not slightly better, than when i started. It certainly IS doable, you just may have to have slightly weaker trainees and understand income and expenditure. A £500k youth in a season or 2 is more than you'll get with trainees in that time imo.

Quick check:

- You joined in August, so your experience is limited to a few league wins and friendlies - wow
- You've expanded your stadium at least 7 times already, in comical fashion
- You have 14 players with an average age of over 27, which you could get away with if training goalkeepers. As your starting keeper from Sunday is 30, that'd be dumb too
- In the mid to long-term you're totally screwed, and you wish to advise others on how to follow your path

In your defence:

- Sorry, I really can't come up with anything

Go back and re-read the newbie guides. Then read the rules, and read the newbie guide again. No mentor with a clue about this game would suggest buying & training old players whilst needlessly spending £200k+ on stadium expansions. An easy IV is the perfect opportunity to bring in 10 trainees, patiently train them and still get results. Oh well.
